A funny presentation of the bitter truth. SEGA gets a few wins now and then, but they've long-sinse lost the magic that made the series awesome in the beginning. Personally I do manage to enjoy the modern games, but I'm just overly open-minded I guess.
What would make the most sense to me is if they would divide the series in half so to speak. While some people continue to pump out the modern Sonic games for their fans, other people should pick up the classic version and continue it competently. That way, SEGA gets more money and they partially appease the fans of old. 'Course that aint likely to happen unless someone with some sinse makes it into SEGA, and even then it isn't all that likely.

Yeah, I kind of feel a bit there for Sonic, but he should look at two things he still has going for him.
1) He's got the Sonic: Dark Brotherhood going there.
2) He's still got the loyal and hardcore Fan base from the Archie comic Series which I might add, that or the SatAM, should have been used for a game. If nothing else it would help make up for some major mistakes like some of the last few sonic games save the DS titles.

Personally I would like to slap silly all of Sonic Team and tell them that they should go the route Capcom went with Megaman 9. Imagine how cool an HD 2D Sonic game would be.

The whole Sonic-Mario rivalry is a thing of the past, that whole argument died when Sonic became playable in Brawl, and there was that Olympics game too. As for the ranting; somebody had to do it!

yup all that stress had to get to sonic, so he had to voice it sooner or later.
I'm well aware the rivalry ended then but i still encounter the odd few who view sonic and mario as enemies.
Personally i love em both so i cant complain :3.

No I can't, I just wish he could hit something else, like the Sonic Team at Sega or just Sega if they are giving the Sonic Team unrealistic time tables and budgets with the stuff from Brawl.
Love to see Sonic going in with a home-run bat or a bunch the other items.

A lot of people do, but there is just something wrong when Sega just keeps pumping out crappy Sonic games and people keep buying them.
If people actually refused to buy those games, maybe Sega would actually make an effort to improve them. I like Sonic as a character, but I haven't played a single one of its games since Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast.

... What I don't get, is why you haven't made an official webcomic out of this yet. It's a lot better than some of those out there. Of course, you mostly do this as a hobby, from what I can tell. But Loose Buttons is definitely hilarious and accurate at the same time. Keep up the awesome work! :3

I concur with everyone else when I say the best part about this is that it's so dang accurate. As an old-school Sonic fan, it pains me to see the guy get the treatment he does. Heck, moreso than what the fans have done, I blame Sega for losing so much sight of what made Sonic an appealing character back in the early 90's. Who would have though that gameplay so simple and entertaining would have been so hard for a company like Sega to duplicate in this day and age? Even the GBA remake of the original Sonic was horrible beyond belief...
Oh well. At least this is pretty funny! Awesome job!

The way I see it is this: Sega realized that Sonic Fans are so hardcore that they would buy the games even if these were not AAA, as time passed they keep lowering the bar and kept churning out more and more frequently those games for profit, sacrificing development time and quality. That is why the Sonic games have reached such deplorable state.

I think I could see your point a bit easier if it wasn't for the fact that Sonic games have taken so far of a dive, with the exception of a Sonic portable game here and there. Contrary to how some people may feel, I don't think the series has ever even made the perfect transition from 2-D to 3-D; as much as people enjoyed the Sonic Adventure games, they're obviously flawed and don't provide quite the experience that the older Genesis games do. You would think that if you want to keep your most popular character respectable, you would come up with the best formula possible in that regard first before coming up with the weird ideas that that Sonic has seen lately.
I know that some companies like to keep using a certain series to keep whatever momentum it has going. Heck, Nintendo does with the Mario games every now and then, especially last gen. However, the difference between Mario and Sonic is that most of Mario's games are still very playable and enjoyable. I'm not even sure if Sonic could have a game nearly as polished as Super Mario Galaxy or Super Paper Mario if Sega/Sonic Team really tried in this day and age. If you really want to gain profit, I would think the best thing to do would be to make the best game possible and let that attract not only your usual fans but maybe new people, as well.
Anyway, these are just my two cents...

Sonic Adventure had some issues, the camera in particular. But since it was the first truly 3D Sonic game (not counting Sonic R which was a bad spinoff) and it was quite playable, I did enjoy it a lot. Then SA2 came around and it had the exact same camera issues (uh oh! I thought, WTH is Sega doing? why haven't they addressed this issue?) At that moment I realized Sega wasn't concerned about fixing the problems the Sonic games had.
Just look at what Nintendo has done with Mario, there have been many spin off but only 3 real platforming 3D Mario games: 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. And Sunshine got so much flak that we had to wait another hardware generation for a new sequel. How many time have we heard form Sega: "we know we mess up the last game but the next one is truly going to be the real deal!" They have released: Sonic 06, The Secret Rings, Unleashed and Black Knight is coming up, that in less than 2 years! Franchise fatigue?, I think so, and I'm skipping all the spinoffs because the list would be too long.
And then there was the whole: let's-add-yet-another-random-character-with-every-new-game deal. Ok, I can take Shadow since there is always the cliche of the evil twin, but then comes along ... Silver? What?!? There is an overpopulation of forgettable secondary characters that is just ridiculous, that is not the way to develop a franchise.
Sonic Team needs to stop making Sonic games so often and concentrate on just making a single solid title every 4 years or so, and they need to find out a way to make it work properly, otherwise, no thanks.

Secret Rings wasn't bad, not great, but it was decent. Liked the running levels of Unleashed, the locals where awesome in a way, but the platforming of the whole werehog just was horrible. I liked the concept, but then I liked the concept of Battlestar Galltica 1980.
Unfortunately they screwed up both so hard with the pooch, big time, the ideas where grand. I just wish someone was there that could have kept the quility, Yeah, SA and SA2 where the best 3D to date.
