Description
Corel Painter. Reference photos were used. The framed pictures are of: Little Boy - 1945, Fat Man - 1945, Trinity - 1945, Oak - 1957. The woman in the chair was also photo referenced, but it is an image I've had saved for a long time - I'm unsure of the original.Interesting fact time:
"The bombs killed as many as 140,000 people in Hiroshima and 80,000 in Nagasaki by the end of 1945."
Paraphrased:
"The release was uneventful, and the gravity bomb known as "Little Boy", a gun-type fission weapon, took 57 seconds to fall from the aircraft to the predetermined detonation height about 1,900 ft above the city. It created a blast equivalent to about 13 kilotons of TNT. The U-235 weapon was considered very inefficient, with only 1.38% of its material fissioning."

If that's not considered "efficient," I'm scared to know what is.
EDIT: Holy crap, thanks for the DD! I have another work related to this image on Youtube, for those interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=filmxD…

The powerful message here is absolutely stunning and the composition only heightens the mood and message within the picture. I personally love the family portraits in the back, or the abscence of rather- a grim reminder of what could become our beautiful world.
I agree. I'd rather an inefficient weapon of mass destruction too... Scary to think of what they have now...

Dark, yet necessarily so to great such a powerful piece. History is there to remind us of events that should never happen again, but the way its heading atm I'm starting to desire reaching nirvana in this lifetime.

Very well drawn, in the thumb I had it pegged as a photo. The future is gunna be a scary place what with all the wars and global warming, random stains of flu, etc

Efficent would be 112%, while 98% might be possible, be thankful that these weapons will never be as powerful as some of us wish them to be.

this is "very inefficient":

this is what efficiency is (340kt, a b61 bomb, the standard US thermonuclear bomb):

anyway, the painting is simply amazing, gloomy and dark. it has a very scary and powerful mood.

and those are "just" 340Kt bombs, they're not even the most powerful bombs ever created.
the most powerful american bomb ever tested rated around 15Megatons, that's 15000Kt.

that's considered to be 'very inefficient'? wow.
but as for the art, I love the outstandingly captivating, though very disturbing tones of the image. all around it's a great piece, and you definitely deserve the DD for it! 'grats

Looks like a cold-war era USSR gas mask... Nice job with the shading around the nose. Most people who draw gas masks don't know that the intake goes around the nose like that to clear fog from the lenses. Always liked that particular mask design, it looks so sinister!
Anyways, this is cool! At first I thought this was in the Photography category, but after a closer look I found to my surprise that it was a digital painting.
Well done, and congratulations on the DD, it was well deserved!
