Description
So, this is my submission for 's sixth fanart contest based on her 'Silverwing' fanfiction series 'Gone Batty'.THE SCENARIO: What if Melody was born a bat, and the animals she knew were born humans.
Essentially a species-flip universe: here, AU Melody got separated from her colony and captured by humans. She got free in the laboratory when they tried to experiment on her, pricking her wing on a needle before she escaped into the city. I imagine she loses consciousness while flying over an alley, and I think you know what happens when she wakes.
I'm surprised no-one else has submitted this scenario so late into the contest. I also feel apologetic for the picture's somewhat-scruffy look. Suffice to say, this picture has been a lesson to me about being too strict with limiting how much time I can finish up a drawing piece in, about how much time I should expect to need to make a good-quality piece, and about trying to create stark grunge effects by drawing with the colouring pencils laterally-held.

This is absolutely stunning! You get extra points from me because of how far you went to create such a detailed and complex background with your own two hands. If there is anything to be proud of, it's that you were not afraid to go the extra mile and tackle something that most people avoid. Human Melody is very beautiful! If there is anything I could tell you to improve, it's that her left hand looks a bit too much like a gorilla hand. Her thumb looks too short compared to her other fingers. The right hand looks fine! 
Very beautiful work! Again, I am super impressed on how far you went into making this- that I am even willing to overlook the minor proportion errors. This just shows how effort truly pays off! And effort, is something that truly wins me over. If I could vote, I'd definitely include you in my top 3 picks. BEST of luck to you.

I've had quite a few ideas buzzing in my head for what roles the characters could have in this universe, but it's not like I'm making this into an official fanfiction, so you're totally free to think up your own ideas.
If you want some undecided musings: I imagine in such a universe, Shade's colony are a tower block community living in a rather rough part of the city, and Brutus is a local mob boss and the owls are his mob.
I think Human Marina could be a teenage runaway who fled after her parents joined a cult, though not before the cultists branded her left wrist.
I imagine Goth and Throbb could be either: a pair of Belizean serial killer cannibals who've illegally fled to Canada escaping their country's authorities; or members of a cannibal-cult (probably a family business of Goth's, which Throbb mainly joined as part of his marriage to Itzel) who've brought their killing spree to North America as part of some final-initiation or cult terror compaign.

I can see it now how it would begin, Shade leads Melody to his home where his mom and Frieda find out about her secret and decide to keep it well hidden. Bathesheba isn't eager to let a stranger into her community with the idea she could be a threat or a member of a gang. Along the way, Ariel courages Melody to attend highschool with Shade to keep people from getting too suspicious and to better help her understand humans with Shade as her guide. The two encounter Chinook, the jock and main source of annoyance to Shade, with Tom and Breeze. Getting into a argument, Shade tells them he's going to look at the SUN (An important initiation down by the Owl Mob), Chinook agrees believing Shade will chicken out and runaway, Melody goes along. Minutes upon arriving at the spot where SUN is usually at, Chinook tries to get them all to leave in fear of his life. Shade refuses causing Chinook to leave the two behind and minutes before the SUN starts, they get spotted and run. Upon getting back home, Ariel and Frieda tell them the danger they could be in. Brutus arrives and Frieda confronts him. The owls destroy their community. Somewhere else, Goth and Throbb break out of the police department cell and reek havoc. The Silverwing community is forced to find a way to fix the damage of their home. Shade gets seperated and meets Marina and reunites with Melody. Brutus believes the killings are caused by the lawbreakers and decides to hunt them down. The trio seek refuge at a old church where they meet Zephyr-a old botanist serving the church. Goth is trying to find a easy route to increase his family company. Unfoetunately when the kids leave an owl attacks Melody only to be save by Goth. Shade is amazed by him while Melody and Marina are freaked out to meet the serial killer. Goth agrees to give them protection unknown that he's planning to use the community as a free lambslaughter.
