Depends, do you “don’t like them” or do you “dislike them”? And why?

It’s ok if you don’t like them, just don’t be mean to them either. Have patience and ask your friend if you can hang out by yourselves sometimes. Maybe you’ll grow to like them or at least interact respectfully.

If you dislike them, for whatever reason, you need to be honest with your friend, don’t push them into taking a side but make clear how you feel. You don’t have to explain why, but if you feel you have to, then it’s your call.

I had kind of a similar situation, my friends understood (and eventually agreed, without my prompting), but everyone is different so, consider the person you’re speaking to when doing so.

It's happened to me before and it sucks, being real to your friend about your feelings for that other person too can sometimes make it awkward or worse

Well if you're good with the person let them know about the fact you dont like the other person and you'd rather hang out with them alone (in case they wanted to hang out as a three or whatever).
