Description This is the J'apu, the first sentient race encountered by humans. This particular individual is seen running in almost full armor, missing its head and neck pieces.

History
Humans and J'apu first met through radio transmissions, and J'apu flew to a colonized human planet from their home world only 16 light years away. Humans and J'apu shared technology for about fifty years before they discovered a method for ftl travel. Both races have benefited greatly from working together, although the first years were full of trouble from xenophobia.

Biology
J'apu resemble birds most closely in their organs and systems. They are from a vertebrate-like phyla and their bodies are set up around an oddly shaped spine which splits in two near their lower back and comes together again at the base of their neck. the y have something close to a ribcage going around their front side. Their heads are long and have three eyes at the front. they have two jaws, in which are 40 teeth. Their tongue is about three feet long when fully extended and is partially prehensile.

The J'apu's bodies are covered in a scaly skin with small "skin tags" around joints and on the neck and back. They have three digits on each of their two legs and three arms (a smaller arm is on their back).

J'apu technology is similar to that of humans in advancement. In formation on thier weapons can be found @ [link]

Thanks! I've been doing some more work on them, and I'll upload some new stuff soon.

What kinda government do they have? Whats their culture like? Whats their religion (if they have one)?

(Sorry about all the questions, I'm just curious)

Just like humans, they have amy of each. It's silly to create an archetype of an alien race, because it puts them on a lower level than humans.

Giving all of a race one culture, one set of beliefs, one governmental structure, is basically calling them mindless and uncreative. It's highly unrealistic.

Ohh... I see. Do they have culture's or religions?

Also, could you also stand though a explination of my own alien race? I'm trying to get people to comment and give feed back on them

Right, the race is named the Aiidian, which means Those who Sing in their language. There are three sub factions of the Aiidian that survived the Great Wars. The IDF (International Defence Force)/ Shil-Ri, Shil-Ri meaning The Leaderless Exiles. The Sheeik-Kai, or Those Who Shall Avenge, a group of Militeristic Aiidians who avange for those who fall in battle and follow the Teaching of Eiikaa, their Goddess of War and Death. And the Aii'ias, or The Concealed and Lost. They are hunter warriors who utalize the Aiidian's natural Psionic powers, and conceal their faces and bodies with full clothing and masks, because they do not believe in outward beauty.

All right. Any notes on biology?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Erementarushokan In reply to Sciocont [2011-03-27 18:25:20 +0000 UTC]

Yea.They're mouthless, so they absorb their food. Four digit hands and two digit toes, so they count by twos. Eyes generally glow with lighter color for females and darker colors for males. They do have hair, and from the back of their heads, Psicic quills grow. They are mammal, so females have boobs. They have large ears to release heat, since they origniate from a jungle, warm and humid world.

BTW, a little more about their culutre. Each member of the Aiidian race, from either the Shil-Ri or Sheeik-Kai (the Aii'as are part of this, since they themselves exiled themselves from the Aiidian culture) come from a clan, so, according to their clan, each member have body paint, which correspond to their home clans.

Everyone. Ever. Has made human aliens. It's cliched and a bit silly, biologically.

Erementarushokan In reply to Sciocont [2011-03-30 17:00:01 +0000 UTC]

They're not entierly human, note the big ears, slightly avian apperance, mouthless faces, and psicic quills growing off the back of their heads. I've got picutres on my page if you wanna see them.

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-03-31 00:40:18 +0000 UTC]

I looked. I don't mean to offend, but they are human. They are human in the same way that klingons are human, just with clay on their foreheads. Now, while it's easier to write a human alien race, and to have them in a movie, scientifically, it's dingo stool, and it's just not compelling or original.

Erementarushokan In reply to Sciocont [2011-03-31 19:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've sorta noted the fact that a audiance generally care a great matter more for a humanoid, or human like, alien. For isntance, in the Homeworld series, the Hiigaran Race, who are human like aliens, are generally the more loved of all the races in the Homeworld series, because they are more relatable to. So, I tried to make a race as close to a human as I could with out going out right human.
BTW, I'm not offended at all.

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-04-03 16:14:49 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's usually true- it's much easier to relate to a human alien. However, I think that if you put more care into fleshingout the emotions, culture, ideas, andd life of a race, people will relate to them as well. Peiople love dogs, and dogs aren't human- it's because we know that the dogs have feelings, and they aren't out to get us. By making a culture realistic, and giving aliens a true personality, I believe you can make something unfamiliar feel like it comes from home.

Try something you like. I'm personally obsessed with the beauty of arthropods (insects, chelicerates, crustaceans), which is why I created the Iriktu.

Also, how do you think of them culturally?
and, what I ment by below, what do you think I should try out, as another alien life designer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-04-06 23:57:49 +0000 UTC]

Culturally, they're pretty good, but having an entire planet split up into just a few factions is also pretty unlikely. I'd suggest you could maybe cover a continent with just those three.
I'd go with something very strange- perhaps an animal descended from an echinoderm- I'm sure that hasn't been done before.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Erementarushokan In reply to Sciocont [2011-04-07 20:59:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's not that the entire planet where they did came from was inhabeted only by those three factions, in fact, the Aii'as are from a nother world entierly. Orignially, on Icura (their real homeworld) there were thousands of different cultures the Aiidians, along with their dragon conterparts. When they were exiled to Kyii, they lost who they once were, and began a fresh, with a totally new culture. After the buring of Kyii, which only about 900,000 Aiidians survived, and most of them were military personnel. That's when the Sheeik-Kai, who were originally on the planet, became the more dominate sect of the Aiidian people, while the Shil-Ri are just a common name the surviving Aiidian cultures came to be. So, there are dozens of other cultures, but they are just commonly known as the Shil-Ri, as it means the Leaderless Exiles. The Aii'as are just a exiled culture, a group of people who's transport in the convoy broke off due to a navigational malfunction.

And, WTF are echinoderms?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-04-08 20:22:46 +0000 UTC]

Makes a lot more sense. Echinoderms are organisms such as sea urchins and starfish. I'm a bit of a biology buff. don't try them, it's hard. I tried a few sketches and didn't get anything good out.

How about snakes? Snake people?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-04-09 20:11:58 +0000 UTC]

Not bad. There's a few problems with being limbless and having a civilization though, since you really can't manipulate objects that way. A reptilian-based race would be easy, but I think if you could pull off a distinctly snake-based people, that would be quite good.

Sciocont In reply to Erementarushokan [2011-08-02 19:15:49 +0000 UTC]

Basing your aliens of of the anatomical structures of chelicerates and arachnids could yield a very interesting result. However, as always, you don't want to just have a very large spider be your alien. Draw inspiration, not totality.
