Description
The Castle of Quéribus is one of the "five sons of Carcassonne", and like the other ones, it's located on the top of a limestone ridge. It was one of the last area occuped by Cathars, until a French army was send in 1255 to take the area. The castle was rebuilt and fortified after this conquest.
Like the other five sons of Carcassonne, this fortresse defend the border against the Crown of Aragon, and lose its strategical importance when Roussillon became a French province after the Traité des Pyrénées in 1659.
~⚜~
