In all fairness, I'd go for the treasure but leave out the ring - the latter has a death curse.
Coincidentally, I've been roleplaying as Fafnir in a Mutants & Masterminds campaign (think superhero version of D&D), and this pretty much sums up his origin. He casually works as a security guard for a natural history museum when not treasure hunting or saving the world.
