The red ones spit fire. The yellow ones also do that, but if you get within striking distance they straight up vore you.

Found it! Finally found it!
It's from the second Spyro game, in the Mystic Marsh level of the Winter Tundra area. You're trying to get the Professor's pencil back and part of the step is to plant that plant's seed.
