Description
this card was made while under the influence of a massive migraine and english muffins with melted butter (not that those two things are actually related to each other) and took about 90 minutes from start to finish; but, that includes the randomized destressing techniques that i prefer which involve the use of various inks -Jim Holtz- (about three of them) scratching, crumpling, reapplication of ink layers, very old gum arabic (over 10 years old) reconstituted) and stressed even further using the microwave twice for ten seconds (any longer can result in something almost but not quite unlike smoldering popcorn set at the highest setting then forgotten about for half an hour...(not good unless you like carbonated collage or popcorn (hard to tell at that stage) the card itself is not coated, the postal cancel from an old Elle magazine i think, (no clue as to the exact date) the thin brown tissue paper (might be hard to spot) came from a bakery (when i saw this paper and noticed how well the texture would work with the things that i do, gears in my head began to turn and i grabbed several sheets of it) and the tiny figures came from an old calendar depicting historic old world maps. the choice of the name should be obvious... can't really be sure the headache (or stress) did not alter my preception to the point of actually seeing these men running around on the desk in front of me; then again it might have been the muffin after all...Related content

Ha! Great story! And what distressing techniques! That microwave thing scares me though...!

*grin* it doesen't work with everything...really cheap cards (uncoated)tend to fall apart if you "cook" them too long (something with the glue that holds them together i think)... and it's safer if the cards are slightly damp. you are only working with times of a few seconds, also add ink layers and scratches in between these cooking times, it really depends on how the card looks, what i do is pretty organic and fluid and changes from momnet to moment depending on how well the patterns are forming. some of the newer cards are harder for me to work with but i'm still experimenting
on what works and what does not.
the best cards i've really worked with so far were the oversized cards that had a thin varnish or plastic layer over them...those were the ones that i first tried the scorching technique that is so exciting to look at.
but i can't find the ones i need

I've been playing around with burning the edges of things with a lighter, but I am looking for a little creme brulee torch whenever I go thrifting! I still think the micro is SCARY!

that would give you a lot more control...you might find a micro torch at lowes or home depot if you really need one rather quickly...you can also simulate burned edges with multi-layers of ink

Yes on the ink! I am quite the collector of inks! I think my fingerprints are filling in!

the destress ink line from Ranger seems to work well for me. i do not have the full set of 24 colors that are in the current line (can't afford them for one thing) but the ones i do have are excellent; i am getting better at layering the inks and destressing the paper and card stock i use...but will not hesitate to burn the edges of a card if it needs it

*grin* all you need are cards, glue, bits of paper, maybe some ink here and there followed by your creativity...
