Description
I've been having trouble painting on my Mac for months and months now, lots of brush marks skipping, pressure sensitivity all over the place, brushes going all wonky, generally speaking.I was on the verge of buying a new Wacom (which in all honesty is probably going to happen soon anyway) when I used an app called Onyx which in a round a bout way solved these problems by informing me of an error on my drive.
The error is now repaired and my beautiful Painter is finally working how it was originally.. phew.
Finally I am not working two or three times as hard to complete work... well, as long as this keeps up at least! Fingers crossed!
Anyway, the title of the post is totally unrelated to my problem but here's an image it does relate to

I'm happy to hear you solved your problem, that must have been quite frustrating indeed!
Excellent rendering of the musculature, it's quite convincing.

Well, it's 'kinda' solved.. I'm still having the problem but on a lesser scale.. something I can cope with.
I have a feeling it's the most recent tablet driver that's causing my problem.. gah... I hope it's not the Mac
Anyway, yeah I suppose that's not a bad bit of musclulization considering I just made it up out of my weird head.. lol.
I read you've been having problems with DA... I use TrueBlock Plus and Firefox and it doesn't interfere with DA at all.. it sometimes plays funny games with Facebook but Facebook is crap anyway

magnificent! really like the brush marks and rake effect. I haven't been near my painter program for over a year! Which brushes have you used so effectively here?

ScottPurdy In reply to TheGurch [2012-08-02 07:32:52 +0000 UTC]
Cheers Gurch
Here be the list..
Dry Ink
Scratchboard Rake
Round Oil Pastel
Bristle Brush
The last two have the settings changed to suit me and I used brush calibration on each individual brush, so they work 'for me'.. but you'd have to fiddle with them to get them to work how you want.. I'm assuming

Thanks , I used to prefer Painter to PS but have got out of the habit of using Painter. When I first started to use digital program Painter was my choice but my PC would crash , if I didn't save in time I lost the work from my last save point or worse it corrupted the whole file! To me it was normal to work and have nothing to show. So I really relate to your infected computer tale.
Thanks again for the brushes list, there is just so much choice in Painter.

I feel for you on those crashing woes.. early on in Painter's life I did have the same problem.. thankfully, for me at least, the latest version is a lot more stable.
The plan that works for me in Painter is to find the brushes that work for 'you' and stick to those. I have probably 6 brushes, 2 of which I use regularly.
Fannying around and fiddling with too many brushes feels like you end up muddying the Painter experience.. for professional work at least... experimentation and fun is all about making brush marks and mess........... which I do love.

Hahhaha it's funny but I only used the one brush with setting tweaked the way I liked , it was the basic round oil, oh and I like the glow brush for final highlights. I dare not reach for too many brushes or breathe too hard in case I upset the painter stabilisers units! (Actually it wasn't just painter my whole pc would turn itself off without notice)

ScottPurdy In reply to TheGurch [2012-08-04 14:21:39 +0000 UTC]
lol, sounds like you've got it nailed to me.. you use the glow brush for highlights though? I might try that.. but I don't think I have the control over that brush to make it useful enough.... it is great for glowing red zombie eyes though
PC's are evil.. and, so it seems, is my Mac at the moment.. grumble.

Infected indeed. This reminds me of the Mad Cow Incident in Arizona a few years back, when an alien species attempted to adapt itself to Earth's environment by ripping the skin off a cow, and then mutating it into a carrier for their own kind. Crazy stuff. In the end, a reverberating fission carbonizer with mutate capacity was the only way to stop it- or should I say them? Even aliens who can completely regenerate a cow can't survive complete cellular disintegration into a radioactive slurry of carbonized, mutated cancer cells. Unfortunately, a beef steak dinner was no longer an option.
I'm so glad you found the solution to your problem!! I used to have lots of problems with my Wacom Intuos4, and it turned out that I was using an outdated driver. I updated to the latest Intuos4 driver, and my tablet now works the way it is supposed to. Running hardware with bad software is like transplanting the wrong brain. I did that once, during a science project- not recommended. Stick with experiments like enlarging insects with a growth ray to prove that insects are crushed by their own weight if they are too large, or something simple like that.
