From "Megalon" to "Terror of Mechagodzilla" that is the definitive Showa Godzilla in my opinion. He's kind of cute while still looking mean af, can't wait to get started on this little series.

The two old Mechagodzilla films ended the Showa era with class, despite how bizzarre they could get.
But yeah, this is definitely when Godzilla stopped being a metaphor of nuclear annihilation and became a big monster pet hero kids loved (sorry, Gamera).

Someday when I get married I want Mechagodzilla's theme to be the song that plays when I dance with my wife, it's just a bumpin' tune.
Side note what are your opinions on the other Godzilla eras? Personally I think the Heisei era is the weakest era and the Millennium era is under appreciated, it's like an updated Showa era.

I listen to the main them of "vs. Mechagodzilla II" when I do push ups.
Damn was Akira Ifukube the greatest movie composer ever, my top 10 Favorite Movie Music Tracks would've been nothing but Godzilla music lol
I haven't seen a lot of Godzilla movies personally (I "saw" them all through various reviews but I should see them on my own to find out if I enjoy watching them or not) but I can see why the Heisei era might be underwhelming, in that it starts off being a nuclear menace again, but it doesn't take long before their put him against other monsters and make him an indirect hero/antihero. It's a shame because I love the aesthetics of that era or the fact it's a clear beginning and end through the movies. Perhaps the Legendary films will stay more consistent (but either improve upon or minimize the human characters)
The Showa and the Millennium eras instead seem more experimental and interesting because you don't know how most of the films will turn out.
I know for a fact that if I ever made a Godzilla film, I'd probably do something insane like Godzilla vs The Smog Monster.
