My ode to Soto, the cool, great older brother of Diego who got screwed!
Soto(Ice Age)
Who He Was:
The leader of a pack of Smilodons and, chances are, Diego's older brother.
His "Villainous" Behavior:
He wanted to eat the baby boy in a human tribe, and later added Manny and Sid to the menu due to their getting involved in the whole thing by chance.
What People Forget:
Soto, like Diego and the rest of his pack, was trying to make the humans who slaughtered half their pack brutally pay for their deed. The reason he added Manny and Sid to the menu was because they were getting in Diego's way when Diego went to get the baby, and there was no other way for it to happen now. Sure, the humans killed half their pack to keep warm, but if the sabers had killed any of the human tribe to survive the harsh Ice Age weather, do you think the humans would've taken it lying down? Of course not! They'd try for revenge, too! Soto was being loyal , staunch and good to his dead packmates with what he was doing.
So What Happened To Him?
At the end of the movie, Soto gets knocked into a stone wall and impaled on many icicles that fall down onto and into him seconds later. And Diego walks off with Manny and Sid, thus betraying his pack and own brother, and making it so that the humans will never pay for what they did to half of the saber pack at all. And the pack is broken up, too.
