Description
This 1948 Tucker is one of the jewels of the Gilmore Car Museum. Built in Chicago by Preston Tucker after WWII, the car company had a very short and controversial history. After building 51 cars, production was halted as Tucker was accused in a federal lawsuit of fraud, SEC violations and conspiracy. He was acquitted of all charges in a jury trial, but the lawsuit destroyed his access to financing and his company failed. Billed as the "Car of Tomorrow", the Tucker pioneered many features that are standard today. Of the 51 cars built, 47 survive, and the value of these cars today is, according to Hagerty's, $1,150,000 - $2,000,000 depending on condition. In 1988 Hollywood took up the tale with "Tucker: The Man and His Dream" starring Jeff Bridges as Preston Tucker.
