Description COURAGE

Digimon is one of those series that essentially raised me and still holds a terribly strong hold on my heart. The comic is half about digimon, half about imaginary friends, and maybe sort of about what courage has come to mean to me in a way too. There’s a few creative liberties (mostly in regards to that terrible ending) but I’m cool with that.

I loved this! Tai goes through a lot of development and it often goes unnoticed. And things like this are what really drew me to the series. The basic anime character types they're based on are just the surface, not all there is to the character like in some other series. (That's Β something that the series after the first three don't do so well anymore. Except for Koji, we know the season four team about as well in the last episode as we do in the first.)

The episode that let me know this episode was special was called "Evil Shows His Face." Devimon just patiently sits back observing the heroes without, well, showing his face yet, just to see who can digivolve and who can't and how the gang operates, and hatches his plan at the right time. (And the moment where he phases into the house through the angel painting was pretty sweet, too.)

Will you do the same for the other 7 destined children?

It was intentionally a standalone piece but so many have asked that I've wanted to in some shape or form!

It really makes me feel sad thinking about what I have learned from a series derogatorily called "kid stuff". Really, the first Digimon season literally gets me burst into tears. There are some scenes that give me the chills being 23 now, that I shrugged off 13 to 14 years ago, like when Wizardmon explained that Gatomon and Kari are now digipartners...just a good advice: Don't watch it in the office, even if you have the chance to...You will have to explain your sniffing
No really, this series showed me the real important virtues of life, including childhood innocence that I sadly had to leave behind, because society is like that.

To all anime fans out there who are (going to) raising your childs and teach them to be good persons, just let them watch Digimon Season one. They will playfully learn what true friendship means, what courage is and what is important in life. It wasn't bad for me, it just showed me that some things are more important than what I have learn from my classmates...even now being 23 (nearly 24, darn, I get old), this show touches me, as this picture does!

Sorry I haven't replied yet to your comment. It's really thoughtful and and certainly does touch my heart and I'm only sorry I don't come on DA enough to catch these when they're first posted! But absolutely, digimon has taught me well and I hope there are cartoons that kids these days can tap into that give them the same lessons of hope and friendship.

To be honest, I am a Taiora fan through and through, which is why 02 broke my young shipper heart so badly! But I suppose that's why I wanted to sort of portray Taichi's reaction to it.

Thank you! Yes. I suppose it was a bit dark, though I feel like digimon is notoriously known for rather bittersweet endings. I always would've liked one for 02 rather than that hodgepodge finale that was based off fan quizzes.

Wasn't it though? Tamers was actually my favorite in retrospect, but I do think the original had the best characters.

Infinity-Joe In reply to ScrapCity [2012-12-31 15:34:36 +0000 UTC]

Yep. However, I don't think I watch much of it outside of first two series. I did watch a bit of a later series, the one where the kids didn't have digimon but could turn into digimon. The stuff between I never saw, because I was at the teen stage of "I'm too old to watch kids cartoons."

ScrapCity In reply to Infinity-Joe [2012-12-31 18:28:52 +0000 UTC]

Ah, very fair. While I don't think I ever hit the phase of being too old to watch kids cartoons, I didn't really watch the 3rd or 4th ones with a lot of interest. I actually couldn't get into Tamers (the third one) until I was much much older and actually decided to give it another shot and was incredibly impressed. I still should give Frontier (the one where they transformed into the digimon) another shot too, I just was so not into the concept as a kid.

Infinity-Joe In reply to ScrapCity [2013-01-01 01:50:34 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it was a phase due to bullies in high school, where they made fun of me for liking the stuff I like, so I though I just I only watch show aimed at "Mature" audience, like Hellsing, Berserk, and so on.

Only later did I learn it doesn't matter what they say, which is why I don't care when people question why I still watch "kids" cartoons and enjoy them.

Rough =/ and it sucks, I feel like so many went through similar shit. I used to feel a lot lamer for my interests but I think now I sort of wear my affection for things as a form of pride. Sort of like coming out of the other end. It takes adulthood to learn that the idiots were other people, not yourself.

Infinity-Joe In reply to ScrapCity [2013-01-11 04:16:40 +0000 UTC]

very much so. Plus it didn't help I use to live in a small town filled with backward think people, and now that I live in Austin where being a nerd is pretty much the norm, it's a lot better.
Even more so when you learn to like cartoon not just because of what it is, but to look at it deeper with a more mature point of view. Like the Avatar series.

ScrapCity In reply to Infinity-Joe [2013-01-13 09:21:15 +0000 UTC]

:c ah of course. Haha well I live in NYC, capital of weird eccentrics who certainly work at our own pace so... quite a similar situation.

Oh absolutely! I think as a kid my frustration always was, you don't describe movies as a genre, like people used the word anime or cartoons as a genre, there is such a range in narrative, market, etc that people just glazing over a media form just because they don't understand it is super silly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Infinity-Joe In reply to ScrapCity [2013-01-13 15:40:26 +0000 UTC]

yep. can't tell you how much I had to deal with people in high school who though all anime was DBZ, Pokemon, or Porn.

And even now it hard to get my family to even try something simple like "Tokyo Godfathers", since that a easy and heart warming film to watch with a family. But I try to tell them the premise, and they are turned off once they hear it's an animated film.
