kills 366 ft long monster
not even able to make a hat out of it, because for some fuckin reason you need extremely rare materials from another monster because the devs cant be FUCKED to make decently balanced drop rates.

Or you know, taking a good long time to sharpen your groovy, dinosaur murdering sword while that 366 foot long monster is present.
(Maybe beating on the monsters makes certain materials unusable and therefore lessens the payout you get from carves.)

I always figured it was a guild thing. You are a hunter of monsters! If it were up to you, you would go out and slaughter everything and then screw up the environment. Fortunately, it is up to the guild what you hunt, where you hunt, and as a result what you get the a certain amount of materials when you succeed. So yeah, you killed a mountain, but the guild has legal claim over its dead body. They provide you with the materials as a reward for your services and probably use the rest of the beasts you kill for the betterment of society (Or to re/build more ships because honestly, how many hunters went out to fight those things and lost?).

I havenΒ΄t had a quest against a Jhen Mohran yet, but I remember that I saw some hunters carving in multiple parts of his body in one youtube video

you can carve his head, body, and even tounge (mid battle) but you still only get so much materials from him

Mm, so sad, something like that hapens to me with the lagiacrus, IΒ΄ve had like 17 or 18 fights against him, but he doesnΒ΄t drops a f*cking horn! he drops even plaes but no horns!

With the sword and shield, healing and sharpening is absolutely no problem.
Eating plus 2 makes ANYTHING you eat take like a split second

The damage is low, but the attack is fast
and being able to use an item WHILE you have it out... lovely.Β
THe dirty Graf (wroggi SnS) when used with free element, has 550 poison! Heck, I keep monsters poisoned the whole fight! (but with a diff set than the one I mentioned....)

Also, they act wary if a monster is in an adjacent area (looking about, huddling together, standing on two legs and groaning)

Oh yeah, that happens all the time, It can be just a Great Jaggi or a Rathalos, but ApontothΒ will react in the same way with both

It helps in locating them faster, especially in deserted Island

Yeah, this has never made sense to me. I've seen some speculation about the subject - the most popular theories are as follows:
1) Hunters only carve the best-quality materials from monsters, and knowing how nature works there isn't a lot of those.
2) It's tradition to carve a limited amount of items.
It's just a gameplay mechanic and nothing more.

Think about this: This HUGE monster, can only make you a hat out of the set. You think there would be enough skin there to make a full set of armor after hunting it once, but you have to hunt it multiple times to do that
