I agree with you to a certain extent-- I Love diverse casts, and I personally headcanon Nastasia with dark skin and O'Chunks as the beefy dude he is. But I think it's also important to understand that people have comfort zones they have to break and/or they might interpret the characters differently, and cookie-cutter as those interpretations might be, they're also valid and not affecting canon in any way.
That aside, I love your interpretation of Nastasia! I like the blue lipstick; I'd never seen anything like it in her humanisations. I'd personally lighten her skin just a slight tad/add more highlights, because the details of her face kind of lose themselves in the color, but that might be me being nitpicky. Design-wise though, I love her particularly. C:

i get what you mean, but if ppl seriously cant draw black characters because its "outside their comfort zone"... idk what to tell you. thats kinda shitty if you ask me
the way you improve with art is going out of your comfort zone, this is why many artists cant get anywhere bc theyre too stuck in their little world (thats a discussion for another time though) besides that im not saying with this that ppl arent allowed their own designs, hell idc. its just that the lack of it is rly sad to me, after all these years in the fandom i want to show something different.
this drawing is flat color, the highlights arent there for a reason, thats how i decied to do the lighting. the hue i chose for her wouldnt look the same if it was lighter.
in this one her skin is lighter bc the lighting. anyway thanks for the feedback and not being pissy like some ppl tend to be lol

Oh, of course! I meant it more when it comes to diverse body shapes, for example-- some people are so used to bishonen and bishojo archetypes that they don't get out of them, and that might even include a bit of the skin color influence-- since bishonen and bishojo are japanese, and thus include lighter skin colors by default. And I agree, stepping out of the confort zone is the gateway to improvement; and I think I forgot to add that some people simply don't know better; they don't understand the fun or importance of diverse casts, so they stick to basic archetypes. Sometimes it's better to educate them than spite them.
Oh yeah, I saw the second picture and left some feedback there too! Overall I think these are v good, I really appreciate the diverse designs. I'm sorry for not understanding the highlight thing, I didn't take the lightning into account.

I think it has something to do with comfort zones. Since people who grew up with anime are used to the same scheme many iconic characters have: pale skin and skinny, we translate that to everything else. I grew up with it because anime is something I admired and I stuck with the style. Years ago I did have problems drawing O'Chunks and Bowser the way they are and it was hard finding a good drawing of a gijinka of those two. Bowser's design was complex for me and O'Chunks' design kind of confused me. Now, I just draw them close to the original designs with a few artistic liberties. Like I do with Kirby characters.
Speaking of, I have seen a lot of Kirby gijinkas (and that of all other series) that make no goddamn sense to me that it has put me off of drawing gijinkas altogether.
When it comes to skin color, I don't mind, but some characters, like Nastasia, already have an established skin color, so I'd rather use that instead of the common white or black skin tones. It just makes more sense. (I'm not saying you should use that, but I'll let you be you...)
I think having a variety of skin color and character shapes can really improve an artist, and it will look more interesting instead of having a these characters being all white and thin and not muscular. And this art compared to other SPM gijinka art I ever seen really stands out from the rest. Hell, I appreciate your take on the shapes of the noses.
Thank you for stepping out common boundaries. You deserve a fav! (And I apologize for the long comment)

i think its the Count and Nastasia's association with the vampie aesthetic that makes them go pale skin for them, as that ties in with it. i get where your coming from though.

i dunno, i wouldda thought automatically assuming darkness=make them black would be more racist. i guess its one of those "you can't apply human concepts to non-human character easily" things though.

that was not the way i was going with that
what i mean is that we can assume that all of them are dark blue, because of the name, which is closer to a black skintone than white.
we dont know that for sure but it makes things way more interesting imo. erasing the fact that they all MIGHT be a whole race of black, fancy, intelligent people would be worse. (not saying they should be)
and most importantly would make way more sense in a human version of spm if timpani is white (which we also dont know)

I mean, I don't really care about the skin color, since that is up to the artist. But I will agree on you with the OChunks part. If you wanna be accurate, then ya gotta give the guy muscle! Anyway, despite that I will admit it is interesting seeing a difference! I like it

Yes to all of these. I especially love how you even made all of their noses unique.
As far as Mario gijinkas go I've seen a good amount of skinny white anime Bowsers too.
Like. Bowser's huge. O'Chunks is too. Where's the beef?
