Description holy guacamole i haven't finished anything in months asdfkj nice way to awaken my poor tablet which has served as a study table/object holder/anything but its actual purpose..

i've been kind of artistically dead (as well as mostly dead to the internet entirely) even just with.. sketching etc but i'm trying to kick myself back into it because i sketched some stuff the other day and nearly cried tears of joy when i realised how much i actually missed it h-haha

anyway i just felt like painting some bears this morning, please excuse any inaccuracies! i might revisit this when my attention span returns (read: never)
also, matlab sucks when it comes to doing really simple things.

I love it, it's such a dynamic composition! I can basically see the movement <3 (I get poetic like that sometimes, get over it xD)

That water looks like it was hard to draw. xD Love the colors :3

it wasn't actually that bad! i kinda flaked out on it though hahah (next time i'll use refs) but it was really fun to experiment

Really? It turned out really well though! Water has always interested me, but I've always been too afraid to try it. xD

oh man water really is terrifying;; i feel like it's always a hit and miss with me, sometimes i overdo it and i just scrap it and start all over haha
you should give it a go though! it's a good challenge

Maybe I will! Challenges are always good. Probably end up looking up tons and tons of tutorials beforehand, I wouldn't know where to start at all on my own.

yeah tutorials would be great! i find it also helps to look at photos and try to break them down mentally into parts/colours (eg. the deepest parts, shallow parts, currents, any foam/spray etc); using multiple program layers for each layer of water also helps at the start. but with art, at least with non-photorealistic stuff like mine, it just needs to communicate that it's water and doesn't need to be exact! though of course it's always handy to know how it all actually flows and how light passes through it etc 'cause that will inform your interpretation of it

I'm already thinking up possible drawings for tomorrow. I'll do my research and look up some references and tutorials and such and try it out then! Thank you! <3

Still a bit daunting, but a little less so than it was at first. I pretty much never aim for photo realism. Muuucch to hard, and just not something I'm super interested in. But as I learn to experiment more I might go for it someday, likely not anytime soon, but someday. ... Wow, I just completely wandered off topic there. xD Anywho, thank you so much for the tips. 8D

sounds great, good luck!!
yeah i feel the same about photorealism, i definitely appreciate the technique and effort that goes into it but i personally prefer looking at and drawing more stylised pieces and no problem at all! i feel super underqualified to be giving advice but hopefully it helps at least a bit, haha o7

emberonis In reply to scrii [2013-06-30 04:50:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. It's an amazing art form, but I tend to prefer more stylized stuff too. I really admire art that's unique, and art where you can see the artist's style. Sometimes with photorealism it can be harder to see some of that. Not that it's nonexistent, it's just easier to see in other art styles.

I'm sure it will help. x3 Just a matter of my remembering to actually apply it when I get around to drawing.

thank you very much! I've always had trouble working with plain daytime scenes so it was fun to play around with really bright colours
