~What The Monster Fears~

I open my eyes and he's not here,
None other than the shadow of a presence I can't escape,
Scratching at my body with his black talons, wounds as small reminders,
Little love notes written all over me without a care in the world,

I've never felt the beauty of fear until he rose in his magnificence,
Wings that could pierce through any prison,
Can't will him away or hide behind reason,
Once he tasted fear, the beast feasted upon it,

I would see what I once thought was freedom before he closes his jaws,
Revenge, anger, and pain, bears his sharp teeth, I can't reach him,
Perches behind my eyes to watch my night terrors and hates it when I go,
Stays up until the crack of dawn sucking blood off his teeth,

Trapped for years, I am losing time,
Waking up under watchful, now fearful eyes,
If you could speak what would you say to me?
Warn me of what was destroying me each passing day,

The winged demon digs into me, nesting under my heart,
I can't run when he stalks,
What I can't see is a much greater evil nesting deeper,
Mirroring my scars upon him,

On my birthday, he devoured my raper,
Massacred my tormentors with one mighty blow,
He breeds and grows with my suffering,
When I look into the mirror, it is him that I see.
