Hi Scriptwidgets. I'm impressed that you took the task and just started drawing. This is a very good start with the backyard as a scene. I use this drawing technique to find the essentials in the landscape that makes it extraordinary or beautiful in a short period of time.

So here is the first hint. Take your drawing and turn it up side down and look at it. Your eyes will automatically look at the black fields which are the shadows of the stairs and the trash can. The beauty in this scene is the vegetation surrounding the buildings. Focus more on the beauty and what is interesting in your particularly chosen scene. Use details on what you are focusing on and less on whats uninteresting. I did the same in Sirius 44. Too much details on the bricks on the ground instead of focusing on the building.

Though this said, you could turn this the other way around and look at wires, trash cans, street lights, commercials etc.etc. which is not that good looking in the city landscape and then enhance the experience of these and make it a lot more intersting to look at.

Before you draw something else. Try to sit down the same place and make the same drawing in about 1 min. You will then experience what is important for you in the scenery. Keep details to an absolute minimal since 1 min. is not that much time

Try it on every location you find interesting. It makes you really look fast for the important lines in the landscape. When done, then you can sit down and use longer time on a new drawing.
