Description
This is Shifty Alvarez.He is in a comic, called the Ballad of Meng Francisco.
what's it about? patintero.
i'm not filipino, what the hell is patintero? a game that's kinda like tag... more on that sometime in the near future.
when's it coming out? hah, hah, hah.... we'll see.
before anyone asks, that thing coming out of his collar is a hand-towel. more often than not, filipino parents (in the philippines, as opposed to say, here in the US) place hand-towels down the shirt-backs of their kids in order to soak up the perspiration that romping around and playing children's games usually generates. it's a hot country.

Hahaha I think traditional Filipino parents definitely do the towel thing here in the States still ...I almost died laughing when you explained the towel thing cause I got a clear vision of my little cousins just like running all over the place in the summer and their mother's chasing after them to try to stick this towel down the back of their shirt collar...but then I stopped laughing because I missed the summer weather too much...

I am actually excited to see this comic of yours! XD Your characters have a certain charm in them... Can't quite put my finger on it, but, it's like the way they pose and everything shows what kind of personality they have and it just makes me want to get to know them better... o_O Blah, I have no idea what I'm saying... asteeeeeg ng designs as usual. the names at the background is cute, too. reminds me of ten and co. btw, nu na nangyari sa webcomic nila? nalabas ba at sadyang clueless ako? 
the towel struck me as an angel wing at first cuz of the shape. yan ang nagagawa ng apat na mata hahaha grabe i miss those days when we were playing patintero. kids these days in our neighborhood aren't playing the game, i'd say they missed half of their childhood

um, well, after much discussion with mihk, i decided to put ten on hold... he's our baby, and seeing as how i've never made a comic before, i wanted to save his debut for when i've level-upped in the comic biz. when i can properly translate what's in our minds onto paper, is when everyone will be seeing ten and co. 
this comic is more of a test of fire, experimentation with my own artistic boundaries, and all that ek-ek. and as such, i'm going to have as much fun as i can with it!
YEEAAAHHH, i just realized i didn't finish the details on the towel. dapat may blue borderlines sa gilid, thanks... im-a fix that up when i get home later. and yes, those kids are definitely missing half of their childhood. i suggest you steal their PS2 and throw it away.

ok nga yun e, mukha shang angel wings, it adds a nice touch. or maybe when you do get to add the blue borderlines you'd still shape it like a wing. hehe i like it actually

well, he's shifty, and crafty.
this comic's own take on patintero is basically a 3v3, or 4v4, or 5v5 match. each person in Meng's team (a 3-man team) has a specific skill or ability that they contribute to the whole. Since most of the time, you can't see Shifty's eyes, he's hard to read. you can't tell whether he's going forward or backward, attacking or retreating, scared of confident.
He's good at counterstrike.
actually, when i think of shifty, for some reason i think of miyagi ryota from slam dunk. same kind of deal. slippery evasive one, he is.
Small bit of trivia: we entered a twelve page version of this para sa neil gaiman graphic novel contest! it was horrendously rushed, and there were many art-and-plot-holes. what mihk and i are doing is a remake, and a revamp.

the colors of this are what first caught my eye. It's pure candy. But your lines have so much character too! It's just a very nice little piece.

Well you've definitely got a good handle on color, that's for sure, so it makes sense that's what you'd rather do
But your lines are charming!
I'm the opposite. I love drawing for the lines, mainly.
I'm trying to get better at color but I don't have a good sense of it. It's a bit of an alien field for me. I've been looking for good color books....have any recommendations? Anything you would suggest me to study or look at?
