"Firefly: The Animated Series" unfortunately does not exist, except in my mind.... This is a fan-creation, which has taken many daylight hours, and a more than few non-daylight hours to complete. Hopefully you will enjoy, as I do, and continue to keep the spirit of Serenity alive.Some notes and fun-facts:
1. It's tough to draw Serenity. For as pretty a ship as she is, trying to make her into a cartoon character is not an easy task.
2. Yes, that says "Purplebelly Saloon" in the background.
3. Kaylee's obviously intimidated by the size of Jayne's...er..knife.
4. Book's right hand is behind his back. Get your mind out of the gutter.
5. Mal's right hand is actually holding Book's right hand. Geez, people.
6. Wash's left hand is...oh, for cryin' out loud, where would think it was? Use your imagination.
7. Kaylee's left hand...ok, no more hand clues. Get over it.

Wow! This is great. I really love Jayne's hat, and the poses between Simon/River and Mal Inara-- very true to character. I think Zoe's expression is great-- she's so not amused. Only critique-- I wish Wash had a little more of an active role. Or pose. Or expression. Or a pterydactyl figurine. Tee hee!
All in all, extremely well done!

Again I can't help but love your interpretation of the Serenity characters, you've taken their essences and reduced them (like a good sauce) into a few colors and lines. It not only works, but it might work even better than the actors themselves. You've reduced them to their integral characteristics and interactions. Mal and Inara arguing, Shepard looking peaceful and withdrawn from the surrounding chaos, Kaylee being curious and childish, Simon and River in a protector-protected pose, Wash and Zoe with their guess-where-we-did-it-last grins . . . And then there's the setting!
Suffice to say you've outdone yourself. I'd love to see these become something official . . .

It goes without saying, but if this were a show, I would watch it religiously.

OK, I have more time to dwell in this now
So... Hands, hmm? Oh, who cares... I mean, isn't it done directly on the PC anyway? The faces and stances are what's interesting to me... How yet another viewer and lover of Firefly/Serenity interprets the same "people I know"
As for them, they seem to have really different techniques, each one of them. From Jayne who's kinda like Hercules from the Disney film of the same name, to River who seems... well, Japanese. It's cool to see that, it would seem to me like you've attributed characteristics to all of them, sort of like a Chinese Portrait game... "If this character were a cartoon, what cartoon would he/she be?" 
Other than that, I like the idea of a Firefly animated series, but sadly I'm guessing it would have the same luck as a Buffy animated series... Still, you never know.

I like your interpretations, and if you went on, i probably wouldn't complain at all--it's probably very much the kind of interpretation I tried to approach them with....I don't know what a "chinese portrait game" is, but it sounds interesting.....
I was going for a "Bluto"-ish kind of thing with Jayne, and River was obviously the hardest...(she was the last character I ended up designing, and I went through a few before settling on that one...maybe I'll post my designs in scraps one of these days.) Inara I was trying to give a more carved, statuesque appearance, than say, Kaylee, who is a tad shorter, and a bit rounder, and approachable....there are these thoughts that i tried to infuse into each of the designs, and my primary stylistic inspiration was Genndy Tartakovsky's "Clone Wars" and "Samurai Jack".
The designs for the Buffy animated series exist....I'm just disappointed they've never been released...Still, it's an idea that could still come to pass....

Yep, a Chinese Portrait game is basically when you sit around and try to guess who everyone else is describing with "if he were XXX, what kind of XXX would he be" questions. It's fun, at times.
I like the feeling of the chars, what they mean to me and what they mean to you, and it is indeed pretty similar
They're direct and visual style based, which ends up looking really cool.
And I know about the Buffy animated series, that's why I said it will sadly end up the same way as that... You never know though
