people copyright everything nowadays, one person even tried to claim dessert themed dogs as their own and flamed people who made a dessert animal.
Even if it's not very similar, people still claim things as their own and anything remotely like them will cause fighting.
Buying the design/idea of a certain creature is easier than fighting.
