I NEEDED TO PRACTICE PAINTING AND GOT AN IDEAI THINK I IMPROVED I THINK??
IVE NEVER PAINTED SPACE BEFORE
AND OVERALL IT LOOKS REALLY DARK
BUT I THINK I DID OKAY
IS THAT HOW YOU DO TREES I DONT KNOW HOW TO DO TREES
TREES WILL BE THE DEATH OF ME

i actually spent hours on this so i'd really appreciate if youd drop a comment or critique
edit i got some advice from people and changed it so that the colors didnt clash as much

Ok first off, you called it practice. This is not practice. This is nothing but sheer mastery. Even if I could actually draw real stuff, and I practiced for eight hundred years, I could never do that.
Second off, yeah that looks like a tree. It is very tree-y. And the grass on the island also looks really cool. If there is a problem at all, it is that it is a bit too dark.
I think there might not be enough stars. You know all those really cool photos of nebulas and supernovas? I think the background should be more like that, but that is a very small problem. If any single person on this planet sees this picture and says it isn't good, I will hunt them down and drive an arrow through their skull. WHAO THERE IM GETTING A LITTLE VIOLENT AGAIN.
Anyway, I think you guys get the point. This is amazing.

and yeh the space background has been pointed out i did it that way on purpose because i wanted it to look really remotes and a nebula would have made it kinda busy looking

yes of course! i started at nothing, i had to practice a lot before i got to where i am now. anybody can do art, theres no such thing as talent, it's all hard work and dedication.
if you ever get frustrated, just remember, not every picture has to be perfect and groundbreaking. just go one thing at a time.
i think the most important thing is to just do it whenever you can. doodle on a napkip at a restaurant, maybe youre on a bus, in class, doodle all the time

I was too lazy to write a crit but i did an edit/paintover, if you wanna see it here sta.sh/08lcvdqnjcb (sorry it's rough around the edges; my tablet is four feet away)
Mostly it's just about color and lighting. Though lbr, i'm shit at both so take my advice with a grain of salt. or an entire saltshaker. Ok, so anyways, I added a light-blueish overlay, because the reddish of the dirt and the vibrant green of the grace contrast a lot with eachother, which, in pictures with vibrant backgrounds would be totally fine, but since the background is space maybe consider a more limited color scheme? Anyways, you were probably going with warmer colors and i kind of..destroyed that w all my cold overlays aheh. I added more dramatic lighting too, which once again probably went against once you were going for so I'm sorry because i effed that up.Β
As for the tree, you p much nailed it. I added leaves w a leaf brush, though they probably would've looked nicer if i'd painted them...but tablet is four feet away so. You don't actually have to draw every leaf out, just the ones that are, for example, the most lit or on the border of a shadow.Β
But yeah as far as the actual painting goes, you're all set so

wowie that looks really cool
as for critique, maybe add a few more things to the space? Like maybe faint nebulae or planets or something in the background. it would make it more interesting, but I don't think it would detract from the tree on the island.
also, the tree/floating dirt look a little too richly colored to be floating in a black-and-white backdrop. maybe make the colors a little less vibrant?

Wow, where do I start. The shading looks great as usual, and the grass really catches my eye because it's so semi-realistic. The deepness of the rock also compliments the roots, seeing that's how long they are. (Worded badly) And the arch of the tree looks absolutely wonderful, fading into space gives it a cool effect! Also the lighting is very distinct, it's almost like it's not far from the sun. And I swear I cans we the stars twinkling! XD Great job, I love it

i think it looks pretty great! the background especially is nice, and so is the dirt part of the floating landscape. you shaded the grass pretty well, but i think it might look better if every single blade of grass wasn't defined - try blending everything together more. Also, I'd look at a ref for the tree (especially the roots - those are the hardest part imo x-x ) - i'd add more details/definition to the bark and maybe some more definition to the leaves
overall it looks great tho!! good job uvu

for me the hardest part is definitely leaves. leaves are just SSSSS WHAT ARE LEAVES.
Yeah i realized i messed up a bit on the grass right after i had finished it. originally there was gonna be a house instead of a tree but then OH WAIT TINY LIL HOUSE GIANT BLADES OF GRASS NO ahah so tree
