Wow, this is amazing! How on earth did you create this image? And how did you make the colours fade and merge so well like that? I most also ask this, feeling kinda silly but what do you mean you used "brushes"? I have seen you say you have made a new brush but err.....I am kinda confused ^^ Do you mean you painted this and made a paintbrush to use? I'm sorry I am not the brightest bulb of them all. Did you draw it then paint it and scan it? Or did you produce it on a graphic tablet or something?

Scully7491 In reply to Chandraken [2005-04-09 04:14:25 +0000 UTC]

This was actually created with a fractal program called Ultra Fractal . As far as brushes go; they are not literal brushes as a paintbrush would be considered to be a "brush". The brushes I make are used in Photoshop to accent art. For example: say you had this really nice scene that you wanted stars in. Well instead of finding a star photo that could be used you could just download my sparkle brushes and stamp stars right onto your digital image in photoshop (somewhat like a digital rubber stamp).

Fractals, as this particular art piece is, are mathematical generations made by such programs as Ultra Fractal and Apophysis. The key is knowing how to manipulate the equations to make a lovely image and/or editing several fractals in photoshop or other photo editing program .

I hope I cleared some things up! Ask away if I've confused you even more lol.

These are awesome, are the programs hard to use? I'm not very mathematically incline but I adore fractal art. I've also seen some really great fractal art brushes too. Ahh, I wish there were more. Are those programs free or how much do they cost if not? *sorry but I've been way curious for awhile and figured now might be a good time to ask.

Thank you!

The programs can be difficult to use until you get used to them, but I can tell you right off you don't need an inclination for math to use them . That comes more in the writing of formulas, however usually these formulas are inluded or can be found through fractal resources.

Ultra Fractal isn't free, that's what I used to make this fractal. you can find more info at [link] to check out pricing for the newest version.

My favorite program is absolutely free though, it is called Apophysis. You can get the beta version at [link] , just do a search for aphopysis, or the old version at [link] .
A couple of other good freebies are fractal explorer and chaoscope, both easily found through google .

Hope that helps you out!

Oh wow! so your using maths in art. I see now. You must be very clever to be able to manipulate it as well as you do, and there I was thinking of bristle brushes *slaps forhead* Ummm......if I were to do a picture would I be able to use your brushes if I disclaim them. I guess I seem kinda lazy though for not making my own background, but I can't seem to make a decent background of stars no matter what I do. Would it be ok?

Scully7491 In reply to Chandraken [2005-04-13 04:51:12 +0000 UTC]

You can use the brushes as long as credit is attached and it isn't for commercial use outside of DA prints . There are rules in my journal that are more specific.

And before you think me a math genius (I tend to fail math lol) I do use it but the program calculates everything for me; I go for more the visual aspect and learning what results in what image (as much as can be done). Apophysis is free (www.apophysis.org) if you want to give it a shot; I promise it is very addictive and fun!

Chandraken In reply to Scully7491 [2005-04-13 06:41:57 +0000 UTC]

oh! That sounds like fun! I myself am not very good at math and never have been but if the program helps me calculate the equations and such then it should be quite entertaining! Thank you so much for your kind replies! In all honesty because of things like the number of pageviews and the standard of your work I was highly doubtful that you would reply to me because there are so many artists that have these qualities and never ever ever reply to their reviewers out of sheer lazyness. That annoys me, I have very little time for big headed twits!

Scully7491 In reply to Chandraken [2005-04-14 06:38:53 +0000 UTC]

Hehe well I hardly consider myself "popular" and to be honest I think the large amount of pageviews are highly due to the brushes I offer . In any case I try to reply to every comment even if I don't have the time to thank for each individual favorite or devwatch (although I try to keep up with those too ).

Spring flowers? Looks more like jumping jacks on acid to me. But then again that could be the Atarax talking.

It does convey spring and all things springy. Nice color choices also.

oh my word.... those colors are perfect!! love the soft flow of the fractal.

and that is definately a new technique... i'm thrilled you mentioned that watermark thingy... cuz i've been so devistated putting it on my images cuz i know it ruins em.

Thank you!

Yes, I'm the same way, I loathe putting a watermark on things. But after seeing work of other artists used on e-bay, photoblog and various other sites, not to mention having my 3D work used as stock a few times, I feel much better putting it on there. I think this one works and looks more professional though; I found a random tutorial online how to do it heh.

it does look more professional indeed. and it's harder to try to remove the watermark too.
