Description
Batnerd: Greetings fanboys, fangirls, comic nerds and sci-fi geeks, and welcome to another installment of Batnerd: Reviews! I just saw the movie Batman VS Two-face. The movie is a sequel to last year's Batman: Return of the caped crusaders which in turn was based on the Batman 66 TV show, starring Adam West. Now...This sequel introduced a new villain into the batman 66 mythos. Or...rather introduced a villain that was supposed to originally appear on the show. Two-face who in this movie is voiced by William Shatner. It is also the last movie which starred Adam West before his death. (May he rest in peace)
Anyway, lets dive in. And BTW, there are some spoilers here so if you want to avoid those, watch the movie and come back here.
Anyway, the movie opens at the Gotham state penitentiary, in which Scientist Hugo Strange is about to demonstrate his newest invention. An Evil extractor which will suck up the evil from the criminals. Batman and Robin is there to overlook the demonstration along with the police and Gotham's district Attorny Harvey Dent. But, as the machine sucks up the evil from the villains, the machine is overloaded with too much evil and explodes, and Evil gas comes in contact with Harvey, while Batman tried to interfere. As Harvey falls down, Batman and the others help him up asking if Harvey is okay....But Harvey replies.. "I am Not Harvey anymore...I am Evil incarnate...I am..TWO-FACE!"
This leads into an opening montage in which we see the dynamic Duo fighting and capturing Two-face. And months later, we see that with help from doctors, Harvey's face has become normal again, and he vows to help the city again.
After that, Batman and Robin are doing two cases. One against King Tut, and one against Bookworm. And...I have to say, after they have captured King Tut and interrogates him, thats when things get funny. For those who have seen the show, you know that King Tut suffers from a split personality. Normally, he is professor McElroy, but when he is hit on the head he is King Tut...so...after Batman and Robin stops him, he is hit on the head and back to McElroy...but...when they interrogate him, Chief O'Hara hits him on the head to make him Tut again to interrogate. And...here is where it gets REAL funny!
O'Hara: Where is the loot?
Tut: I'LL NEVER TALK!!! (Hits himself on the head)
McElroy: Ow...where am I? My head hurts?
O'hara: You won't get away that easy! You'll talk! (hits him on the head)
Tut: argh! Not even the might of the egyptian gods will make me talk!!! (hits himself on the head)
McElroy: ooooh....Im getting a headache...
Anyway, during this, Harvey Dent manages in the court room to bring tut to justice and in jail, and we see how Bruce and Harvey are good friends, and with how Harvey treats Dick Grayson like a kid, we can see Dick getting all jealous. Anyway, later on after they have captured Book worm, they noticed that neither Bookworm or King Tut sent clues which lead Batman and Robin to capture them. Batman and Robin then notices that all the crimes have a thing in common...Duality. Could Two-face be back? They go to Two-face last known hideout and shockingly, two-face is back! Scarred face and everything! Two-face manages to overcome batman and robin, but because of his coin he lets them live.
Later on, Batman and Robin goes to Harvey Dent's office, and...shockingly, his face is NOT Scarred....could someone ELSE be posing as Two-face? After Batman and Robin leaves, we see Harvey Dent calling Two-face...and we learn that Two-face have helped Dent. By helping Batman and Robin capturing the other crooks, Harvey gets the crooks convicted in court, making him look good to the public, and with the competition gone, two-face can become the king of crime in Gotham.
After coming back to the bat-cave, Dick and Bruce argues over Two-face. Dick being sure that Harvey is involved, with Bruce disagreeing. This later leads to Dick sneaking out and following Dent, and Dick does find out that Harvey is working with Two-face. But not just that...Also HUGO STRANGE who has rebuilt the evil extractor! And they use it...to turn...ROBIN INTO TWO-FACE TOO!!! He gets half his face scarred and becomes partially evil!
...This is fun. Just...a Two-faced robin just is so hilarious! So corny..Its pure Batman 66! HA Ha ha! And kinda fitting too! In the last movie, Batman became evil, guess it was Robin's turn here!
Anyway, After Batman stops Two-face Robin, Batman manages to create an anti-dote which turns Robin normal again.
Later on, as Batman and Robin investigates two-face Catwoman escapes Jail. because Batman promised to meet her, but after he set her up, she escapes. Later on, Batman and Robin manages to track down Two-face who manages to capture both. And now...Something is revealed...as Harvey Dent comes and says sorry for everything to batman and Robin....He transforms, and Half of his face is scarred again! Yeah, they REALLY put emphasis on the fact two-face was based on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde here! Anyway, Two-face explains that while the scars were healed, they were just a physical manifestation, while the real Evil was inside all along, and thats how Two-face came back. but its even worse...Two-face has FIGURED OUT BRUCE WAYNE IS BATMAN! And he plans to sell it at an auction between many of the villains of Gotham! As the villains starts to bid, Catwoman shows up and bids even higher in an attempt to save Batman's secret identity. But the villains unite and overbids her, and thus two-face lets the villains have their fun while he escapes. with help from Catwoman, batman and Robin, manages to defeat the villains. But..they have discovered something worse!
Turns out, with help from Strange, Two-face had uses an new and improved evil extractor to extract evil from the villains..why? Because he plans to turn EVERYONE IN GOTHAM INTO TWO-FACES!!! And so, HE DOES!!! He flies a plane and starts gassing he city, turning people into Two-faces!!! Everyone gets half their faces scarred, and starts doing evil things! Nuns break into shops and smashes windows, EVEN CHIEF O'HARA BECOMES A TWO-FACE!!!!!
But Batman and Robin manages to follow Two-face and destroy the gas tank engines before all of gotham is gassed, and the plane crashes into an oil factory! But, as Batman planned to use the anti-dote on two-face...he noticed that the ANTI-DOTE IS DESTROYED!!!! Now...Batman has no choice but to try to make Harvey overcome his dark side on his own. Here, two-face and Batman have their battle, with Two-face saying he doesn't need Harvey Anymore, and thus, Harvey disappears, and suddenly, ALL Of Two-face's face is now scarred green! One-face! SCARY-FACE! He Battles Batman, but as Two-face is about to kill Batman, Batman reminds Two-face of his coin, how it decides everything. Two-face angrily says Batman is right, and he flips the coin....But...Surprisingly, The coin is BLANK!!! No good side, OR Bad Side!!! With Two-face confused, Harvey Comes back, and manages to overcome his dark side, and Two-face vanishes.
Later on, Batman and Robin uses the anti-dote on gotham, turning everyone normal again, and all the villains are caught, except Catwoman who escaped. And months later, Bruce and Dick meets Harvey Dent again...But..Surprisingly, he doesn't remember that Bruce and Dick are Batman and Robin. Because, it was two-face who figured it out, and Harvey has suppressed that memory...but Batman fears that Two-face may still be inside Harvey, and could possibly come out again.
And...Thats Batman VS two-face. Honestly? Its a Great movie! You could say what you want about the 60s Batman, but in the end, Adam West's final movie was going out on top. Its full of corny stuff, hilarious things, and it gave me tons of laughs! I also quite liked William Shatner as Two-face. he does a good job with the role, and manages to perfectly make a Harvey Voice and Two-face voice. There is also some cameos and easter eggs here too, such as Dr Quinzel, and that moment between her and Joker could tease that she could become Harley in the future.
Another thing I liked is that despite it all, This could actually fit into the Batman 66 comic series too. As Harvey is normal again by the end, the origin in the comic with Boss Maroni could happen turning him into Two-face again, and even tough the 66 comic got a different Hugo Strange, he could have changed his looks since this movie to trick batman and Robin. You just have to make up things to fill in some gaps, but it could all work.
All in all, a great movie. Full of laughs, action, and a great two-face. Any fan of the Adam West Batman will love this. So...Thanks for everything Bright Knight. May you rest well.
This is Batnerd signing out. Take care!
