Description
I know, I know, I'm basically kicking a mare while she's down with this...but to be honest, I really can only spare so much sympathy for Lightning Dust if this was her actual fate after "The Washouts," because, no matter how you slice it...she still brought it down upon herself. And the sooner she realizes that, the sooner she'll learn at this point.
I had wanted to add a drink and straw in there somewhere too, but couldn't figure out a good place to put it.
On the technique side of things, used a new tactic for putting this together that I recently learned, and it's been a huge timesaver, as it lets me not have to fret unnecessarily so much about the little details (that none of you viewers are ever going to see anyway) as much as I had in the past, making the digital side of things much easier and less stressful. Can't wait to try on some other projects of mine, but for now, an episode-centric comic for your consumption.

Worse than bringing it down on herself: she almost brought it down upon Scootaloo.

And this is why I hate the new episode with her in it. I LIKED the ending of the original episode they were GOING to use!

I've also heard that Nick Confalone supposedly said that Lightning Dust came across in the final episode (talking about The Washouts here) much worse than what he intended in his script for the episode, but I can't seem to find a source on that.

I don't know...I thought the original ending for the earlier episode would've been a cop-out and not have given as much tangible weight to the consequences of Lightning's actions as the aired version gave, nor would it have been as much as a wake-up call for Lightning, as it would've just amounted to a slap on the hoof for her actions by comparison. Further, it was more realistic the way it ultimately aired--the Wonderbolts may be primarily acrobatic, but they're still military in nature, and no military would've put up with Lightning Dust's antics like that. Spitfire was wrong to have awarded Lightning Dust's disregards for the safety of others for as long as she did, and Rainbow was right to ridicule her for that.
I know MLP's all about forgiving and forgetting, which is great, but it's not always applicable in every circumstance, and I feel this was one of them. It would seem the show's writers ultimately felt the same.
But to each their own. Had it really been just a mere demotion, it would've left the character in a more positive light, and I can certainly see how some would see that as more desirable.

If nothing else it did give us a genuinely heartbreaking moment with Scootaloo declaring how "I'm never going to be the best of the best or a Wonderbolt, because I CAN'T FLY!"

i found it to be completely unrealistic. She nearly killed them, yet didn't show an ounce of remorse. and suddenly she was OKAY with being demoted, that weak.

The article was about how public demotions don't really work.

If you're going to invoke 'reality ensues instead of what the author intended' so Rainbow Dash spent her four months while Tank hybernated in prison.

I think I would prefer "and she was never heard from again" because in all likelihood with the show ending next season that's what's going to happen.

Probably, in fact, I'd be surprised if she did (assuming season 9 is indeed the last. I'm not doubting that it's not, I just wouldn't put it past Hasbro to change plans unexpectedly. They did it before--I recently learned season 3 was supposed to the last during its production). But then that leaves it completely open for us the fans to picture what her future might be...
