Description

I rather like the look of watercolor painting, and have had the chance to try it myself in the past. Unfortunately, I lack the supplies (and the budget) to do watercolor painting traditionally, and have long been disappointed with my experimenting with art programs that attempt to allow you to "use watercolor paints" in their programs for still failing to achieving the realistic "look" and unpredictability I want.

So this was me trying to see if I could figure out a way to "fake" watercolors in Photoshop with the use of filters, masks, and various brushes by experimenting on some old archived art. To that end, I think I am on the right track, but the quality of the final effect is going to have to depend on the base pic I'm using. For example, for the top one, I found my typical style of inking hurts the realism so uninked pics would work better. Which is when I did the bottom pic, which I like much better, but again, the pic wasn't made with this effect in mind and it shows.

So basically what I've learned is that a custom-tailored pic for this effect is going to be best, but, again, I feel I'm on the right track here, and that's what's important. At any rate, will have to experiment more with this in the future.
