Description
A short cartoon incorporating some of my favorite aspects of biology and horror. Internet discussion of nightmare fuel, creepypasta and the uncanny valley have all contributed!They're meant to be nameless and mysterious, but I did give nicknames to all the creatures so I could recognize the files, of course. In order of appearance:
-Bogglemen
-Goliathan
-Muzzle & Gnawbaby
-Dumbo heads (inspired by the Ocean Sunfish, but it's probably not obvious)
-Gaper and Sophagus (based on blobfish and basking sharks)
-Chuckleheads!!! (also my favorite obsolete insult)
-Void snort
-Sex angler (lol, yeah)
-Scrutiner (pretty much just the face of a deep-sea hatchetfish)
-Spore angels (inspired by Clione, a type of sea slug)
-Pucker & Nosey (actually based on "Pob" and "Noseybonk" from 80's television in the UK)
-Peepers
-Grumbler
-The swallower

Odd, I didn't jump once, and wasn't the slightest scared, but when I see moths in real life (the big ones), I freeze and don't move for an hour...

Gorgeous! I love the idea of abyssal humans. Your designs are slick and visceral as always. The only thing I could think to criticize in this is the protagonist's simplistic design. Obviously, it's intended to create a stark contrast with the creatures around him, but I think at times it's almost too distracting, and why would you want to draw attention away from these magnificent abominations?
I found the Bogglemen the most frightening and disconcerting. Their sudden appearance, fast movement, and dramatic place in the story (they're the first truly out-of-the-ordinary thing we encounter, and their cry the first sound we hear) make them the most memorable, despite, or perhaps because of, the fact that we never actually get a good look at them. Plus, wide-eyed, gaping faces creep the hell outta me, so there's that.
All in all, brilliant. I'm a big fan of the site, I wish you luck on the Mortasheen e-book, and congrats on the daily deviation! You deserve it.
