It's funny, in that the presence of eyes in this Triffid defeats one of the major points of the novel!

You're right! But he had to look determined one way or another. Plus, they had eyes in a lot of the novel covers and movie posters. The copy I have of the original book portrays them as basically swamp thing with a lamprey mouth.

Well, my copy of the book has them looking like killer corn plants with tentacles that are trying to eat a bunch of zombies.

Indeed! It's interesting how it's basically just a disaster story, but killer plants happened to turn up just in time to seize the moment. I remember in the original film, they tried to add more logic than was necessary by making the Triffids a product of the same meteor shower.
