I thought it'd be obvious since the only difference is he's now bald and pale, i.e. in the advanced stages of sickness. Plus the fact that it happened after we see the city using some sort of distress signal.

I honestly think adding the x-rays is overdoing the joke/making it too obvious...losing all your hair is the most iconic effect of Cancer, though it's actually caused by the treatment.
