I played ST but I don't remember any bunnies at all.
Was it possible to interact with them in any way? If not that's most likely why I don't recall them.

Yep, once you receive a rabbit net from Bunnio, the guy at Rabbit Land Rescue in the Grass Realm, you can go around catching them for rewards and "frolic" with the ones you caught. It's really cute, but yes, it is optional! You must've just never went to the Rabbit Land or got the net, it's no biggie xD

Actually I remember it very well now, there was some very useful rewards for catching the critters.
But I wasn't any good at catching them so I guess I suppressed the memory.

This is such a cheerful, happy picture--I really like Link's grin and the way he's leaning on his elbow and looking at the rabbit, and the bright sunny yellow colors complemented by the purple shading. It gives off an energy of cheerfulness and camaraderie, and a sense of how comfortable these three are with each other.
