Description
For some folks who are asking about my process, I thought I'd just throw a little summin together. Here is another teaser panel from one of the comics I'm working on. The process is pretty self explanatory, and yes all of it is done in photoshop.
1) First I do a rough thumbnail in blue of what I want the image or panel to look like.
2) I tighten it up a bit more figuring out expressions and clothing folds and, she rough shading was done in step one so I define that a little more.
3) Linework only on a different layer and this could be used as is, but I want more solid black as it's a moody scene and the art isnt quite finished. But I know exactly where everything is and is defined at this stage.
4) Add in all the solid black areas taking into accound light sources, as well as adding textures like his stubble and adding more line weight to existing lines etc.
Oh and dont worry about the bottom of this panel cos it's fixed in the actual work, I just threw this together quickly and it's late and I'm feeling lazy
And thats it, done. Thanks for checking this out and hope it helped.

It worked wonders! I enjoyed seeing the process. By trying to practice your panel process in my own pictures, it helped me create my first comic style pic. I feel that I have room for improvment, but that was great for my first try. ^^ Thanks!

No problem at all. If you work on different layers it helps you to loosen up. Have a very rough layer, then a breakdowns later where you tighten it up, then linework, then all the details and solid black areas. Glad it could help.

What program did you use and what tool did you use in the program to do the line-art? I LOVED how it came out so clear and not fuzzy.

I just used Photoshop, and used the brush tool. I worked at 300 dpi resolution as well. Hope that helps.

you know what - your 2nd last frame is where you should have stopped IMNSHO... we've spoken lots about the Non-player artist's colour and line work and that panel there is perfect for it... The clean lines appeal to me much more, the shadows wigh it down a bit. Of couse if this was a B&W comic then the final frame is the way to go.
on another note - seiously? photoshop? wow - those lines are frikkin awesome, all my photoshop lines look a mess.

Yeah the second last frame is great, and right now I don't know if we'll go colour. I hated haviing to cover up stuff in that frame, but felt it necessary to keep the tone. Know what I mean.
But, there will be pages with just lines like that for example if there's a daylight scene outside then sure.
Yup, all photoshop buddy
And now I'm getting even slicker lines in Manga Studio (I'm loving that program so much)
Oh and should be doing some thumbnails for Velocity this week

How would this change now that you're using Manga Studio?

Well the process would be the same essentially, but the lines will be more slick and clean, and I can get more detail in. Also MS has more textures and colours for me to use.

While I'm no artist, I'm sure artists would like to see it!

Really nice work, Sean. I have to say it again: you've grown so much in just about a year, that I can't believe it. This panel process, just comes to show it looking fwd to see more of the work you've been doing lately -for which I congratulate you, as it's well deserved.
