Poulsbo, aside from some of the Scandanavian styled buildings, is a snapshot of classic suburban USA. It's a quiet small town where everyone knows everyone. It even has a huge department store, the perfect symbol of the American suburban economy. It's kinda like Mayberry.
And that store, "Dicks Sports Emporium" is an obvious reference to a sporting goods store. Normally, you're not allowed to use the names of actual companies or products in comics or cartoons. It's not too bad though. I can still say GalaApple, Burger County, McDarryl's, CockyCola, Tipsi, Chevrolump, Carvix, and all the big ones.
