Furries...and with delusions of grandeur...(shakes head) Your artwork is very well done, as always, but Twilight's power, as demonstrated by her battle with Tirek, is such that
she would simply be able to, in the blink of an eye, vaporize any opponent that might possibly be so minor a threat that a wolf with a sword would have any hope of defeating.
Far more likely that Twilight would be protecting the wolf.

In Twilight’s battle with Tirek, she was pumped full of Celestia's, Luna’s, and Cadence'd power. That is not the case for this scenario, so we don't fully know the extent of Twilight’s abilities, nor that of this unknown foe. Plus we are not sure at what point in the fight does this moment take place. Both protagonists show injuries, so it quite possible Twilight has been doing battle with this anonymous evil for quite some time and was simply rendered helpless. The wolf too is injured, perhaps from a prior foe that he has dispatched before coming to Twilight’s aid or perhaps from this same enemy.
Either way, I will not debate who is the greater of the two, the way I have written these characters, they each have their own strenghts, but I will say that Magic does give Twilight a severe upper hand, but magic isn't everything.
Besides the purpose of the image is not too show the wolf can defeat the villain, but rather show off an even greater traits, loyalty, bravery, and heroism in the face of great and terrible evil.
It isn't that he’s going to protect her, it's that he’s willing to lay down his life to do so.

Awesome work! The look in the eyes of both characters is what sells this image for me. Not to say I don't love the shine on the blade, but the fear on Twilight’s face and that hate in Foxtrot’s eyes is exceptional!
