Graphite on Paper
I've been trying to get better at faces. Working on realism and proportions and whatnot.
I feel like it's too easy to just draw a generic looking face every time. I want to draw faces with personality and make people want to know more about who the person that has been depicted is.
Comments, critiques, faves, appreciated
Hope you like it

Interesting attempt in black and white as well! It seems like you tried to bring a specific interest to the hair for the representation of its mixture, didn't you? ^^

ooh did you use a reference on this one? she kinda looks like Kat Von D from LA ink i always wanted to learn how to draw realistic but i think its alot of work and im lazy doing the shading and everything xD atm i cant critique this cause im not good at it haha anyways really awesome blending technique sean
, did you use any tool?

thanks Joman! yeah I used a reference, but not Kat Von D. I think it was a pic from met-art.com but I dont remember the models name
blending I only used my fingers here and there, and then had to adjust it in photoshop so that the scan matched the actual drawing (scanner never scans it right, always washes the image out a bit ) so i copied the image over top itself, blurred the top layer and then set it to multiply so the bottom layer shows through

ahh i see, either way, good job! and yea youre right about that scanner thingy, thats why traditional works always looks 2x better in person than in digital form

The only thing I could think to critique is that her eyes look just a bit off-kilter- the one on the right looks slightly higher than it should be, but I only noticed because I'm constantly doing stuff like that so I'm always looking out for it in my own art. I can't think of anything else remotely negative to say about this. I like it a lot, the bold lines and her hair and everything. You definitely succeeded i conveying personality through her facial expression.

Thanks! yeah I kinda felt the eyes were off a bit as well, but couldn't quite place what it was I needed to do to fix them. that always seems to be a problem for me with faces Glad you like it and thanks for the crit!
