Character: Due to a somewhat traumatic position of service earlier in his life, Simon is prone to night-terrors, extreme bouts of anxiety and a quick and often violent response to most stimuli. He still believes heavily in the healing properties of alcohol although his habit has somewhat improved over the years following his initial arrival in the city. A combination of his perpetual anxiety, post-service trauma and a tendency to frequent pubs in all corners of the city means Simon’s job as a self-employed street musician is somewhat unstable but he manages to make enough to keep a roof over his head, food in his belly and a drink in his hand. He often seems hostile to most but those that push past his course manner and habits sometimes find a more fragile creature, deeply scarred by the violent end to his first career.

Brief backstory: Commissioned along with a handful of other grems by a high-ranking navy official, Simon spent much of his life piloting a seaplane in the first grem-piloted division of the naval airforce. He lived and slept in the barracks but spent most of his time in the air, in a Curtiss R3C-2 he referred to only as "the old girl". His duties consisted largely of patrols along the icy coast as the navy's main purpose was rescuing lost sailors and launching attacks on poachers' ships. One such attack ended his career when Simon's division found a ship to be better prepared for attack than they had initially been informed of. Within minutes, debris littered the ocean under a empty yet storm-stricken sky. Simon's half-conscious body only washed up on shore after a day and a half of senseless drifting punctuating by bursts of terrorised paddling. He was found by a student collecting data on the kinds of kelp washed up in that area and was gradually nursed back to health in the man's cramped apartment. It soon became clear that Simon was the only one of their division to survive the attack and this heartbreak confined the large grem to the flat's interior for months. When the student graduated and left for a research post along the coast, Simon ventured into the city, buying a guitar with the little money he'd saved and beginning to busk along the streets in an attempt to support himself. When it became clear that playing guitar near the exits of the subway would do little to pay for food and an apartment, he began to brawl in the pubs he visited whether out of hope for a cash reward or to physically pummel the weakness out of himself. As he became better known for both his Nordic music and his determination and savagery in a fight, he began to scrape together enough to pay for a minuscule apartment above a bar and food enough to sustain himself.
