Description
This drawing was done for a customer, who wanted the Optimus Peterbilt livery applied to a chopper. This drawing took a long, long time. It probably took the same amount of time as my other car drawings to actually draw this bike, but understanding the correct way to proportion it was challenging. The way bikes tend to sit was also tough to get correct. I guess this is why there are not too many traditional motorcycle drawings on DeviantArt. Even using the Google search engine to look for traditional sketches and drawings of motorcycles yielded few, if any, good results.
Regardless, it was still a great learning experience for me, and I also have a newfound interest. It is not as big as trucks, but it could broaden my focus with drawings.
This drawing was done on 100lb bristol board with Prismacolor pencils.

Thanks! I should mention that on my drawings, a waxy buildup appears in the black areas after a few weeks. It's simple to remove, just use a cotton ball and rub the wax off. Your bike drawing looks very nice! I can't wait to see it colored. The quality looks great already!

Another great piece of work here... I never thought that drawing motorcycles would be that hard, but yours is really good. As always, it is very realistic.

Thank you! I think motorcycles are just very complex in their overall shape, so that could be the reason why it is so hard to draw.

Yeah, their designs are way more interesting and unique than cars are.

Cool! I like the composition with the bike filling the page at an interesting angle. Your proportions look spot on, and you did a beautiful job on the foreshortening. You have a wonderful range of values here. It's a real stunner! A sterling piece of work!

Just a great angle-view! Just think, This is all by hand!
This is quite a piece of design work! I love your "Themed Designs"!
This reminds me of a show I once saw: "Orange County Chopper", or
something...Those guys design and build "Themed Choppers" for charity...
At first, I thought they were a group of thugs and screw-ups until I
saw The chopper they designed and built for the Caterpillar Corp.
The "Bike" not only had the classic "Caterpillar Yellow" and black
colors, it was built extra-heavy duty with everything over-sized! All
it's details were custom, like the up-turned exhaust pipe with that
"flapper-cap" on top! The actual chopper did NOT look "cutesie" at all!
It really looked like something the "Caterpillar Corp." would build, if
they offered a Chopper with their line of heavy-duty equipment.....
Which was the designer's intention. It was fully functional and road
worthy. It took my breath away!
I see what you mean Paul! I would "pull-my-hair-out" just laying-out
the perspective of this complex object! WOW PAUL! You did it flawlessly!
I've already "Gushed" about your awesome talent in the past, so you know
how I feel about you. However! I'm confident that if you showed your fine
works to the "proper" people; they would offer you a full scollership to
"Art Center" College of design in Pasadina California! I Just Know it!!

Thank you very much! I just looked up the chopper you mentioned, and it is a really interesting bike! It definitely pulls off the Caterpillar style very well!
My friend, who's waiting to be accepted at the school), has been telling me I should attend Art Center...I may try showing those people my designs just to see what they say.
If I did go there, I would focus on entertainment design though, not automotive. Unless, if automotive and entertainment design programs can be taken together...

Your welcome Paul!
Yes, you should do that Paul! I believe they do have
"entertainment design" stuff, I mean that school being
so close to "Hollywood"! They do have a "Killer" Automotive
design program there!
The old Art Center classroom Bridge building was designed by
my favorite Architect: the late Craig Ellwood! That campus
has since been added-to and "bastardized" by some wild crap
since it was first built in 1968....
Craig Ellwood's Bridge Structure has showed-up in several movies!

Thanks! Prismacolor pencils are great, and they are probably the best colored pencils out there. Using a blender can really bring out the colors. I only wish they didn't break so much!
