I just wonder if with a strong DOF this would look a bit more realistic? The suburban area's are, I feel, a bit too flat and homogenous as well. Like I'm missing antenna's, stuff sticking out, variation in color... Those area's give more the feeling of tents from a refugee camp then a densely populated city.
The longer I look, the more I think with a strong DOF my "problems"

I think you are totally right. I tried to make them as simple as possible so they dont get more detail than the main buildings. But they need some more variation! But I also like that they are kind of "standard" blocky looking.
