Description
The red shirts of camelot, from the show Merlin (which is shown on the Sci-Fi... I mean SyFy channel), seem rather similar to some other well known red shirts from Star Trek TOS, especially in the fact that they appear and then they die somewhere in that episode leaving Kirk and Spock, aka Merlin and Arthur, to be the lone survivors. The "oh noes" faces of Merlin and Arthur say it all.
Merlin belongs to BBC and possibly SyFy.

There we go, could raise back to life an army of redshirts assuming there's a newly terraformed planet nearby.

Everything has the expendables also known as Red Shirt syndrome If you're a wearing a red shirt you'd better try to get out of there! Of course you'll die first...

Seconds-Design In reply to SiverCat [2010-08-12 05:43:07 +0000 UTC]
All those poor expendables, and they never see it coming. lol, though if they did have a red shirt and realized it and got out of there... it wouldn't be long before the main characters hear a bloodcurtling scream of that escaping red shirt dying some gruesome death.

And then the inevitable "He's dead, Jim." lol. Main characters must used to the screams of dying red shirts...

Indeed, with the look on his face. I think they would be quite used to it, especially the all time favorite recurring one, the Wilheim scream.

I suppose, assuming you look at it from a more optimistic point of view. A realist or perhaps pessimist might say tomorrow is no garuntee and don't forget those stupid.. I mean student loans that need to be paid off! I think I prefer a somewhat more optimistic view here...

They are indeed like the res shirts in Star Trek. I wonder how they keep finding more knights to replace all the ones that die or are banished. I mean, there are only so many noble families with sons the right age....
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Seconds-Design In reply to mizz-izzy [2010-08-08 05:22:21 +0000 UTC]
Good question... clearly the nobles have little to do in their life but produce knights for their king... << And what of the more common soldiers, do they have to be noblemen to? If so... there must be more noblemen than they, or the book of geniologies lets on. If not then Arthur better stop bringing knights and rely more on foot soldiers... lol
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
mizz-izzy In reply to Seconds-Design [2010-08-09 00:24:26 +0000 UTC]
And, if all the nobles keep dying from battles... there won't be any more left for the future king. xD
Hmm I don't think there were foot soldiers in that time. There was the king, knights, merchants, and then serfs. Though I suppose they don't stick to that really as they had Arthur teaching the people how to use weapons in one of the episodes. xD

Seconds-Design In reply to mizz-izzy [2010-08-09 04:47:56 +0000 UTC]
Have to make some more commoners into nobles I guess... though I don't think they would. lol Hmm, maybe they just lower their standards on the ones that can't pass the training.
Not sure, though you figure a kingdom would need an army and not enough nobles to be enough knights for battle. Yeah, so clearly commoners can bear arms.

mizz-izzy In reply to Seconds-Design [2010-08-09 18:04:55 +0000 UTC]
But... Uther wouldn't like that at all! Now, Arthur might do something like that. And must in this story- if he's going to marry Gwen.
Well, it is the same for all those little countries. So they all don't have many warriors to fight. Made wars easier probably. XD

Seconds-Design In reply to mizz-izzy [2010-08-10 04:47:04 +0000 UTC]
Arthur probably would if they could pass the training, like he would have for lancelot.
lol, this war consists of 100 noblement knights vs 108 noblemen knights. Have at yea!

True so one law would be that no sharp pointing blades, any contestant found using one automatically loses and is kicked out, and no declarations of war can result... or something like that.

Yupyup, because they like complex rules that confuse you so they can claim to be smarter than you and thus you need them to rule you and then they can interpret the law how they choose.
