Description
There's a thrill being on the water of the Puget Sound, you never know if you'll be racing beside Pacific Whiteside Dolphins or Orca, have lunch with sea lions or otters, get buzzed by a heron or eagle as they dive for a fish. There have even been a couple of serene moments as whales of various type come alongside to examine your craft while they take a gulp of air.
But one of my favorite spectacles is to watch the sailboat races that help kick off the summer season. Sometimes, I would view from the beach, dockside, or even an upper balcony of someone's business or home, others I was able to ride the wake of their passing the boat I was aboard.

This piece is done in gouache with highlights and some clean-up done through the Claris paint program. The original was gifted to the winners of that year's race as part of a set of three paintings I did.
