It just sorts came to me as I looked at the photo as did the others i have written to go with my photos. Are they good? I just thought they fit the photos

the shadows and lighting in this is really nice...the deepest, darkest parts of who we are belong to the other half of our soul...and nothing can replace that. beautiful poem.

I don't think it was too dark.. I'd suggest a touch of gaussian blur to make it a little softer, but I'm not sure if that would actually lend to the picture at all.

I did play with a blur and then removed it because it softened the eyes too much.

Have you tried a lovely little application called Neat Image? you can find it rather easily on the web.

It allows you to soften some things, and keep others sharp. it's a lovely little program, and I use it for a lot of my pictures.. have a look at it.
