Part 2

Captain's Log
Stardate: 2259.11.3

Today the Saratoga has arrived at the Covel System where she'll spend the next several days running stellar surveys.

The Covel System is a binary system, comprised of two stars orbiting around a common barycenter and very close together. Covel I is a giant G type (yellow) star and I do mean giant!  G type stars in their prime are called Yellow Dwarfs. As they age they begin to expand.  Covel I is in a later stage of its life and has expanded to almost three times the size of Sol.

But as large as Covel I is its dwarfed by its twin. Covel II is a B-type (blue) star and like all B type stars, that thing is HUGE!

James T Kirk

TYPES OF STARS  (From Hottest to Coolest)

Class O (Blue-white)
O-type stars are very hot and extremely luminous.
These are the rarest of stars and among the most massive.
They only live for a short time

Examples:
Mintaka                (Giant)

Class B
(Blue)
B-type stars are very luminous and blue.
They are usually giant or supergiant
Like O stars they only live for a short time and are usually found in stellar surseries

Examples:
Alcyone
Alnilam
Bellatrix
Regulus
Rigel
Zeta Scorpii (Hypergiant)

Class A
(White)
Canopus
Deneb
Sirius A
Vega

Class F (Yellow-White)
Procyon A
Alpha Ursae Minoris
78 Ursae Majoris

Class G (Yellow)
Alpha Centauri A
Eta Bootis
Sol/Sun
61 Ursae Majoris

Class K (Orange-red)
Alpha Centauri B
Arcturus (Giant)
Sigma Draconis
Pollux

Class M (Red)
Red stars are the most common and the coolest in temperature.
They range in size from dwarf to supergiant
Some have always been red, while giants/supergiants at one point were a different type but changed color and expanded with age

Antares                   (Supergiant)
Betelgeuse              (Supergiant)
Proxima Centauri     (Red Dwarf)
Wolf 359                (Red Dwarf)
