He moved from his hometown because people wanted to control his life, and now that he has to live on his own he enjoys being free to do whatever he want (to the point where he can't take criticism).

Chapter 1, There's no place like home:

Garret was born into a litter of three Espurrs, his mother a Meowstic and his father an Umbreon. When Garret hatched and his fur color didn't match that of a regular Espurr, his parents were shocked. They thought something might be wrong with the infant, and they rushed off to see a doctor.

When they were informed that their baby had a shiny mutation, they didn't know what to say at first. His father was a bit taken a-back, as his only son was pink in fur, and he didn't want the cub to grow up being teased for it. His mother however found the shiny mutation to be a blessing, thanking Arceus for making her baby so special.
As Garret grew older he learned the perks and downsides of being Shiny. Either people took a liking to him almost immediately, or they shunned him for being different. As a young cub he did not understand why he got so much attention, when his siblings didn't. The attention made him a little bratty and spoiled, and he thinks very highly of himself.
However, there were people who cussed at him and wore him down. "You're not that special, so get the F**k out!". Garret grew bitter towards them, and he'll take a permanent disliking to you if you ever look at him the wrong way.

His parents had different opinions on his color at his birth, but as Garret grew older they both seemed to deem it a miracle. How many parents had been blessed with a shiny child after all? So Garret was favored over his siblings, not intentionally, but his parents took a liking to the idea of him making money off of his looks, and thus spent a lot of time prepping him for it. This made the relationship between Garret and his siblings a little tense.
His parents wanted Garret to be some sort of performer. They wanted him to take advantage of his blessed fur, and urged him to become a model. Garret got into modelling as a cub, but as he grew into his teenage years he become more and more rebellious towards his parents wishes.
He did not want to spend his days being bossed around, and constantly having to worry about his looks and the way he treated his body.
He wanted to be like other teenagers, and he wanted to see the world and have fun with his friends!

When Garret was about 15 he told his parents that he did not want the life as a super model, and that he didn't want the fame and money. All he wanted was to have a bit more normal life where he could relax, take trips with his friends and perhaps go to school on a regular basis.
His parents disliked the idea, but they didn't want to push Garret away from them, and agreed to homeschooling and no more modeling.
It was then that Garret discovered his love for exercising, and he started to take long walks around his home. He also learned that he loved swimming and surfing. He would often take home seashells and stones from the ocean, and then craft them into small trinkets and jewelry.

Chapter 2, Taking a trip to the skies:

It was only when Garret turned 18 that his parents agreed to let him travel. So he worked hard for a year to gather enough money for a roadtrip, and set off as soon as he could. On his travels he heard of a small town that was opening up to new residents, and so he decided to settle down there for now, as he was in no hurry to go back home. It would be his very first adventure.
