I colored it black orignally, and used a PS lighting effect. Then I used my downloaded petal brushes and scattered them.

Ok, lemme first say this: Your new style changes are really amazing, keep it up!
Now, your coloring has vastly improved, expessially the gradient shading on the body. Also, your new style of hair is adorable! The colors are perfectly matching and contrasting, for the pink in the body and the pink in the bg really compliment each other!

Well, what you do is make the gray lighter and make the shading more drastic, so you can tell where the shadows really are!
