Do they live in the desert, scrubland, or some other environment? Is this a male?

Neither desert or scrubland. I have an environment in mind for them, and despite their bright coloration, they do camouflage (glowy orange plants anyone?) And no, this is a female. I'm thinking on giving males a much larger head-crest. =3
