Description
This is my final render piece of my Character Design portion of my Conceptual Illustration class. I'll be posting all the rest of the work we had to do for this portion. Which included a head turnaround, a full body turnaround, expressions and action poses, PLUS this (done in any format we want), AND a 3D maquette in sculpy (still in progress). I decided since I suck at traditional coloring/painting anymore, I decided to do it digitally. I think this is pretty good for my first time coloring in a long time. I wish I had remembered to save the pencils though.Oh and this is a remake of: [link] It made coming up with a concept for the class easier by elaborating on something I already started.

SHIT DAMN STEVE!!! your color here is hella better. You've really gotten better. A lot better. My only problem is the dude. The dragon is wicked, the background is kicking, but he's just not there. Really killer colors though

About him? He's flat. Like a board. He lacks the intense sense of grit and depth you gave everything else. The whol picture is "new" Steve and he's "old" Steve. His head is too big for one. His whole anatomy has that patchwork feel to it, like you're drawing something you "know" is right, but it's not coming from the gut yet. That dragon is all gut. Robust, He just doesn't feel natural, like you put your heart into him. It's like that point where there's nothing more to learn, you just have to work till you get it yourself. I can point out all the things that don't work, but they're arbitrary, pedestrian. They're not what's really the trouble because the problem isn't technical. Keep at it, Steve. This makes me feel bad!!!! XD

I really like the coloring, just critique on the clouds, they looks too 'scribbled' on while the rest of the picture seems to have more of a painted look.

That is brilliant. The colours go well with the lineart, but I have to say I like the inking job better. It's truly impressing, you have style and professionalism, I take my hat and bow to you.

Thanks for the compliments, I sometimes don't feel professional when I still have people telling me to change my style cause its not real enough characterwise. I'm not sure which I prefer myself really, I like how it looks black and white, but I really love the sandstone in the color.
