Description No, i dont mean anal sex! Pervert......

This is another Amanda Jones piece commissioned by loosely based on a short narrative he sent me. The short version was that Amanda basically snuck into a museum planning to steal the Necronomicon. As she was about to grab it, a male figure who wanted the same thing hit her in the back of the head rendering her unconscious. Lucky guy.. he gets the book and the babe!

No references used. Hope the male's design is good enough.

Great pic!

I am a big H. P. Lovecraft fan. He "invented" the book, "Al Azif" (aka "Necronomicon"), by the mad arab Abdul Alhazred, first mentioning it in his 1924 short story "The Hound". It certainly has taken on a life of its own since then!

semaj007 In reply to gytalf2000 [2009-09-02 04:15:59 +0000 UTC]

Yep! i didnt even know Lovecraft invented it! I juz knew about it from Army of Darkness... guess that shows that i havent read much.

Yes, Lovecraft was very skillful at mentioning the forbidden book in passing, without giving too much information, thus picquing the interest of his fans. He encouraged other pulp writers of his acquaintance (Robert E. Howard [creator of "Conan the Barbarian"], Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth, and others) to use it in their stories. Some more impressionable readers assumed that there was an actual book that these authors had consulted. People would write to Lovecraft inquiring how they might get their hands on this outrageously dangerous tome -- he would simply tell them that he had made the book up!

Of course, much later, in the mid 1970s, some occultists decided to write their own version of the "Necronomicon". The most successful has been "Simon's" version :

Interestingly enough, "Simon" actually maintains that it is genuine. Another interesting book can be found here:

Te really weird thing about all this, is that there is an incipient religion, the "Cthulhu Cult" that actually believes that Cthulhu and the other "Great Old Ones" of Lovecraft's "Cthulhu Mythos" actually do exist.

[link]

One of Aleister Crowley's (he founded the religion called "Thelema") disciples, Kenneth Grant, leader of the "Typhonian Order", believes that he has been in contact with Cthulhu and his pals since the early 1970s!

What makes this even more intriguing is that H. P. Lovecraft, who started all this with the publication of the short story "The Call of Cthulhu" in the pulp magazine "Weird Tales" in 1928, was a staunch materialist and atheist who did not believe in the supernatural at all.

People will believe anything! Just ask L. Ron Hubbard! Ha!

Ahh yeah that's the movie, yep, my freind made us get it out when we were having a "scary" movie night, and we laughed so hard

not a prob mate

semaj007 In reply to donni-filth [2009-09-01 13:30:36 +0000 UTC]

it wasnt a scary movie! it was more like a dark comedy. LOL. Ash is the guy's name and i think it was the breakout movie for Spiderman director Sam Raimi... which is why Ash played small roles in the Spidey movies.

donni-filth In reply to semaj007 [2009-09-02 11:08:03 +0000 UTC]

well g-der, thats why we were laughing, that and the lameness like i said, our mate made us get it, and "scary" is in quotations because none of the films were remotely scary, it was like, the exorcist and wrong turn and stuff like that fun times

AND i just learnt something, directors and all thanks for that, but who does ash play in spider-man?

semaj007 In reply to donni-filth [2009-09-02 12:29:04 +0000 UTC]

At least wrong turn was entertaining. Hehe. Come to think of it, i havent seen much scary movies lately. The scariest i can remember is Darkness Falls but only the first 10-15 mins of the movie.

In Spiderman 1, Ash played the wrestling announcer. In 2 (or 3, not really sure) it was the usher/guard during MJ's play that wont let Peter in coz he was late or sumthin..
