Description Honestly this piece doesn't go along with the whole rebuilding of the universe story that I was originally doing. I built the nebula, which was actually a lot bigger than shown here, originally for a wallpaper that I was working on. But it wasn't working out how I wanted so I rotated the canvas and turned it into a terraspace scene. The original dimensions were 1200x2100. I've resized it here for people without big monitors.

-------

Aprox. 50 hours to complete (this includes building the original nebula - which took over half the time to do, I only ended up using about 1/3 of it too )
Mediums used: Terragen, Photoshop 7.0
Resources used: Several satellite pictures from NASA's MODIS website, all manipulated
Other details: Everything in this scene is created from scratch, except the planets, which were made originally from the textures retrieved from MODIS.

Thanks for viewing.

haha i can see u used my planet method

the big planet looks really sweet, but if you look the atmosphere comes off of the planet in the right corner. Also i think the small planet is a bit overcontrasted

terragen looks cool, though a bit bright considering there isnt a sun and i dont like the weird blending mode

clouds look awsome and stylized, however the nebula looks a little empty. mabye try adding some more stars/asteroids?

overall sweet peice

You mean alan's? And I didn't mess with the contrast... the texture was ment to be that way, get it? Deeper parts of the planet.

Uh, the sun is in the nebula.... it's about the same distance as our sun is.

About the nebula... each to his own, I think it looks fine.

no alyn uses other textures, remember i showed you that nasa website where you can get the real world stuff?

and IMO the sun from the nebula wouldnt be able to make the ground that bright because of all those clouds. you have a very thick layer of clouds, and i dont think that the light could penetrate that much. thats why i think the terragen looks a little off >.>

There's separation between the clouds that when seen from a bottom view, you would be able to see it just fine.

I like this one a lot..sorry i could't see it earlier, been a bit under the weather. I really love the nebula, its awesome, and the planets and clouds are great, the dreamy look of the terragen render is sweet too, great job. High Quality work right there.

I love the terragen work and the huge planet. It has amazing texture, something I've haven't been able to come even close to. I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like the smaller planet is out of place... but I still love the whole piece!

Wow, looks great. Those clouds are incredible.

The only thing i could suggest changing is possibly the nebula. Its a little dark in the middle. The lighting feels off.

Besides that i love it.

Well, not dark, but not bright enough. Needs to be brighter, i guess.

I like the nebs and planet and transition... but 50 hours? what were you doing?

Also you have to include the amount of time it took to do the large planet... nearly 8 hours simply because of the photomanipulation of texture and gettin the application correct. The small planet is just as detailed as the large as well, so that one took forever to do too, but since it was downsized you can hardly tell it would take so long.

As I said in my description... half the time was spent trying to get the nebula right. Even after spending hours upon hours working on it, I only ended up using about 1/3 of it.
