I wouldn't say "Way too," but I definitely though protoss before i read the description. some random mix between a dark templar, zealot, and archon.

Why wouldn't you? If the artist claims it to be an "original creation", yet 90% of the viewers make a direct connection to an already established race in a 10 year old franchise, there's a problem.

I think you can still inspired by something but not be copying it.
For one, I don't know if William19 has ever played Starcraft.
More than that, maybe by "original creation" he was saying "original idea for new protoss unit."
We'd need to ask him to know. But either way, protoss or not, I think the picture was well made.

You can, but the artist obviously didn't spring far enough from the board to not be accused of such. hence "too Protoss-like"
Whether or not he's aware of the SC franchise is his own fault for not being in the loop of contemporary culture.
That and I highly doubt it's an "original idea for a new protoss unit", that just appears to be you fishing for excuses out of interpretation.
No one denies it's a good digital painting aesthetically, nor did I really care. I made a point about the work's concept.
