Description
Okay, this work is actually titled "Encountering the Mokarran Inversion".Thank you character limits. I swear, the surrealists would have killed themselves in the face of such devices.
Well, I wanted to make a commemorative plate for the Franklin Mint but this is what came about.
They also never return my calls.
Every big tree needs a friend.
I could do this all day.

Reminds me of a synthetic growth pod or something, a pod made up to grow something but it's all inorganic.
I like the magnified crotch the best, that really does take the cake.

Well, there's something I wouldn't want to encounter in a dark alley. Then again, I mean what do you think you're gonna get if you're hangin' out in dark alleys all the time, right?
Moving right along, this makes me think of Philip K. Dick for some reeason. Probably because the last book I read from him had a character that had been hit with acid darts and was travelling through different time planes and stuff, and this seems like a vision that character would have had.

Hey thanks.
That is a really cool idea.
There is a definited intention of shifting or breaking up of the reality planes in this.
Glad you stopped by!

Yes, I too hate the character limits. It gets quite frustrating to poets/writers/anybody for that matter who like to use many words in the title.
As for the pic, it looks like it was inspired partly by the film, The Abyss. I also sense some aspects were derived from various Lovecraft stories (which wouldn't suprise me at all.)
The scale at which this pic was delivered is simply amazing, it's so majestic it comes off as godlike, in a certain sense.

I love the colors! The blues are so vivid and lively.
Added bonus is that this really freaks me out. I think you have a nack for creating things that horrify quite well.

Ah thanks. There really is a fascinating and almost beautiful quality in things we find inherently distrubing (like the irridescent eyes of some insects or spiders).

I enjoy to see how you (seem to) move away from spending "too" much importance and work on formal things like borders and image-effects. Using the effects of what you found out with that in a piece, and not as subject of a piece itself, works brilliant and still keeps the 'origin' in a more sublime way.
the 'spinning-wheel'-effect in here is really sucking the viewer in, together with the depth in the background.
Having the courage to leave the strong contrasty blue on the right is great
The magnifying glass holder on the left bottom is the only thing that irritates me. Does the figure really need to be held?
k.

Ha!
You know, I never really saw the maginfying glass aspect!
Oh man. I can totally see that now. That was an element that was more to provide a solid "rendered" anchor, a point of contrast to the more fluid right hand side.
That is great. I can totally see that now.

This is really impressing. However, i find the textures, which stands at right side, a bit irrelevant with the main "fluent" style of the image.
Nice work.

Senecal In reply to awakeone [2004-06-30 14:18:36 +0000 UTC]
Hey thanks. I appreciate the observations, and that is a good one. The textured area on the right is what I am using to visually represent the actual "transitory" moment, or the inversion--the change into something from the "known" into a new state. I sometimes use extreme perspectival shifts, or overlapping opacity and offset figurative elements to do this too. To convey the idea that something is in flux, and constantly warping. This is in contrast to the more, rendered, solidified elements in the lower left.
I sometimes think animation would convey this better since it allows the artist to incorporate the element of time, but in static 2-D work, we have to come up with more symbolic elements to reference these intangibles.
But that is a great observation. Thanks for stopping by!

Hmmmm. I would be lying if I said the idea of breeding a new race of superhumans was not tempting. I will have to check on the non profit status of the church I am building and if it allows for multiple dependant status we might have a greenlight. It's odd that humans only have on average 1-2 offspring at a time. That will change under my administration.
